It’s the kind of news BBC Scotland excel at – tabloid sob stories with a health board absurdly apologising for protecting us from Covid.
Wouldn’t a real journalist think: ‘Hey, I wonder what the stats are like?’
If they sniffed failure to hit targets would even a Reporting Scotland reporter have told us all about that? You be they would.
What are the stats like? So, to repeat myself for the umpteenth time. From May 2022:
99.8% of IVF patients seen on time by NHS Scotland despite large increase in demand
From Public Health Scotland today:
During the quarter ending 31 March 2022:
- 430 patients attended an IVF screening appointment, a substantial increase compared to the previous quarter (364 patients) and the average of all quarters of 2019 (367 patients).
- the 90% standard was met and in fact, there have been no patients screened who waited over 52 weeks since the quarter ending 30 September 2020.
- 99.8% of patients waited 39 weeks or less with half of the patients screened within 26 weeks, similar to the previous quarter.
Scotland’s IVF programme is major and long-running success, never seen on Reporting Scotland, and with a wider contribution to the mental health of thousands of women in Scotland.
