Little surprise as new Italian pollster advised by two Tory politicians emerges, as campaign begins, to find less support for independence

Yesterday, I drew attention, prompted by Bill Cruickshank, to the above poll outlier suggesting far stronger support for No (6%) than the Panelbase poll at roughly the same time, which had No 1% behind Yes.

Prompted again (I need that) by readers Scott and pd0930, I scrolled down the TechneUK website to find that their 4 Italian senior staff, had only these two UK consultants:

DR SPENCER PITFIELD OBE

Spencer served as a Hertsmere Borough Councillor between 1999 and 2007. Across these two elected terms he was both Portfolio Holder for Waste & Recycling and Planning & Infrastructure and also served for a short period of time as Council Deputy Leader. A four time Parliamentary Candidate in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire he was appointed Director of the Conservative Policy Forum in 2012, a role he held until 2015. Thereafter he was asked by Rt. Hon. Robert Halfon MP and the Conservative Party Board to re-establish the Conservative Workers & Trade Unionists (CWTU) gaining official Party Board approval for the CWTU in 2016. In 2018 the CWTU transitioned into ‘Union Blue’ and like all other Conservative Groups at the time de-affiliated from the Party in 2021 into the current independent centre-right think tank and pressure group.

and:

STEPHEN NAYLOR

He ran the Conservative Party’s press and media operation in the North of England for the three years leading up to the 2010 general election. Since then he has worked as an advisor to Julian Smith, MP (Con) for Skipton & Ripon.

    1. PS – Can you clarify if “Waste & Recycling and Planning & Infrastructure” is different to the “Conservative Party’s press and media operation” ?

      1. “Waste & Recycling” – sounds as though it could be those who authorised the dumping of raw sewage into England’s rivers and around the coastline?
