Masks or no masks?

On BBC 1 this morning we see once more ignorance of what is happening across the UK in terms of infection rates.

After the above FT journalist is presented as reliable alternative to all the experts calling for mask-wearing, we’re told by the presenter:

And we know that despite some policy differences across the four nations, including some mandatory mask wearing, we’re seeing similar Covid patterns for all of the UK.

Really? Are these trends similar?

And, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine spotted a decline in mask wearing in England and Wales in September, but not in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  1. They really are determined to deny that Scotland has fewer cases of Covid than the other ‘nations of the uk’.
BBC play a dangerous game here, basically encouraging people to believe that masks make no difference at all so why bother, even in crowded places and large gatherings. Disgraceful.

  2. That headline quote, “…you’ll get more transmission, masks or no masks” – Eh ?
John Burn-Murdoch sounds to me like an entirely justified recommendation.

The link is a recent article, you can do a search on the site for ‘masks’ and a whole number of articles and reports/research on the science are available.

The BBC, a public broadcaster, are actively misleading people, ‘masks are great!’ What is that supposed to mean exactly! No science, no information, just stupid opinion, designed to mislead and in effect removing the right to choose.
It’s extremely sinister. We watched a news item about the Aso volcano eruption in Japan couple days ago, and the person giving the interview was wearing a mask, it was see through, tightly fitting and made a good example that officials can wear masks and still do interviews.
The English government are setting an example. It says don’t wear a mask, you will look like a dork, and stop being so pathetic, look at us, all pals, all alive, why bother wearing masks! Be tough! Meanwhile rubbing their dirty scheming hands together at the prospect of cashing in on the privatisation of the English NHS. Covid is a gift to them and they bloody love it!
‘Masks are great’ that could look good on a mask. Maybe there’s a market for stupid quotes about masks on masks!

  4. Johnston is being criticised for not reintroducing masks. Most people consider wearing masks to save lives is essential. There will be increased deaths this winter, especially in the south. There will be more restrictions introduce. Or more people will die. The Tory unionists do not seem to care.

The banks have been given tax breaks. The banks fund the Tory Party. Defence spending has been increased. Foreign Aid has been cut. More people will die of death and destruction. The Tories are going to supply the Ukraine with weapons to annoy the Russians. Westminster unionists have been illegally supplying the Saudis with weaponry, since the 1960’s. Taking bribes and donations from them. Keeping it secret under the Official Secrets Act. £Trns have been spent on illegal wars. It could have been spent on education, healthcare etc.

Saudi Defence spending $69Billion. Pop 33million. (11million migrants). One of the highest in the world (pro rata).

The US Defence spend $740Billion. Pop 340million. The highest in the world (pro rata). Over 1/3 of all world Defence spending. $1910Billion. That could be better spent.

If that was spent on healthcare, education and welfare the world would be a better place.

  5. The virus came from a defence laboratory in China financed by US monies. It has negatively destroyed the world economy and caused numerous deaths and destruction. An attack on humanity. Yet no one is held to account.

    1. I’m always sensitive – alert to – the potential for conspiracy theories on this and other topics. And especially so where there are assertions made without a link to evidence. So Gordon’s comment prompted me to do some searching online.

I found this published by The Intercept – a notable and commendable source of investigative journalism based in the USA that I have been aware of for several years:

‘More than 900 pages of materials related to U.S.-funded coronavirus research in China were released following a FOIA lawsuit by The Intercept.’

      (Source )

Interesting link to US company research: ‘The Intercept has obtained more than 900 pages of documents detailing the work of EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S.-based health organization that used federal money to fund bat coronavirus research at the Chinese laboratory.’
