From SNP Media:

The SNP has said independence is needed to “keep Scotland safe” from the lasting damage of Tory rule – as midterm polls suggest the UK faces two decades of Tory governments that Scotland has consistently rejected.

With new analysis showing no change in midterm polling since the Tories won a 157 seat majority in England at the 2019 general election, Ian Blackford said the UK was stuck in a “Tory political ice age” with no realistic prospect of change ahead of the next general election.

The SNP Westminster Leader said Scotland is “increasingly vulnerable under Westminster control” – with Boris Johnson pursuing another round of devastating austerity cuts, a jobs-destroying hard Brexit, and a power grab on the Scottish Parliament.

An average of the eighteen opinion polls since the May elections has the Tories on 43.6% (n/c on 2019 general election) and Labour on 32.1% (n/c) – an 11.5% lead for Boris Johnson. While the SNP is on course to block the Tories in Scotland, Labour is losing ground in England including losing the recent Hartlepool by-election to the Tories.

Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP said:

“The UK is stuck in a Tory political ice age with all the signs suggesting the Tories will be in power at Westminster for at least another decade.

“It’s clear that independence is the only way to keep Scotland safe from repeated and unwanted Tory governments and the long-term damage of austerity cuts, Brexit and power grabs.

“With Boris Johnson preparing a return to austerity, with devastating cuts to Universal Credit and a public sector pay freeze, there isn’t a chance of a fair recovery under the broken Westminster system.

“Instead Tory cuts will entrench poverty and inequality, hinder economic growth, and slash household incomes – damaging Scotland’s interests and leaving millions of families worse off.

“Scotland is increasingly vulnerable under Westminster control – with Tory cuts wiping out the benefits of progressive SNP policies like the Scottish Child Payment.

“Scotland hasn’t voted Tory in over 65 years but we’ve had Tory governments imposed against our will for the vast majority of that time. The only way to keep Scotland safe is to become an independent country with the full powers needed to build a strong, fair and equal recovery.”

  1. I really do despair of British Labour supporters in Scotland.
They appear to place greater value on Scotland being ruled by England than having social democratic policies enacted in Scotland.
Their old ‘solidarity with workers in England’ narrative no longer holds true now that these workers are voting for England’s Tories and are exhibiting xenophobic and racist tendencies.
There is only one way out for these people now if they really do support socialist policies and that is not by remaining in England’s “union”.

  2. Gordo the Broon is on every radio station, newspaper and TV channel.
    I wonder why?
Gordo wants Prince Billy to come to Scotland, but he will need to wait till England are knocked out of the Euros, as William is a supporter as well as President of the FA.

    1. Stop Press :
William can’t come to ‘Scotland ‘ as , according to Whitehall edict , it has been subsumed into the UK and no longer exists as a single entity . So William will be visiting the northern UK !
So the EUROS will need to be re-drawn as there is NO England , Scotland etc… so they cannot play as separate ‘countries ‘ .
Therefore William will be President of the UK F A – which will have a single team ( also called Greater England ) as it will comprise an all-England select !

  3. Never ever think for even for a fleeting micro second that Scottish sovereignty
    Rests with Westminster
Tell me how any possibly can give you what is ours. Impossible because they do not have to give
Sovereignty IS ours and only we can claim it back
It is whether you agree or not
    As Simple as that
What is complex is how humans interpret matters
Reality is Reality and always so simple
If you think otherwise then you are either
    1.In a comatose state
2.Temporary suffering from a lack of truth and knowledge
3.In a state of denial and clinging and grasping to wrongful beliefs and lies
All this is a universal fact always has and always shall be

  4. “Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP said“

Is that the same Ian Blackford who repeatedly stood up in the House of Commons and said “Scotland will not be dragged out of the EU against its will!”?

Is this more pish and wind from bloviating Blackford or does he mean what he says this time?

    1. “Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP said“ might impart to even the most basic reader of English that the “Is that the same Ian Blackford…” was superfluous, but not to you, oh hell no…
You insist on reminding all and sundry ad nauseum hence “bloviate” of the same “pish and wind” with not the slightest intent of explaining what might have been done which may have overruled a minority in Westminster.
As to your “pish and wind” problem, perhaps turning your back into the wind may help.

  5. “Tory political ice age”

The Enlightenment was a time of political change that gets unfairly represented, IMHO. Though it saw an end to the tyranny of monarchies, it also entrenched the tyrannies of sexism and racism into the fabric of the law. Which is why WOKE theory was invented. Though the drive to force Scots law to accommodate gender ideology, suggest this theoretical imperative has been completely misunderstood by Scotland’s political/legal Establishment.
