2021: Ain’t no stoppinG us now!

My nomination for the song to carry us to independence is McFadden and Whitehead’s ‘Ain’t no stopping us now.’

D:Ream’s ‘Things can only get better unless you live in Belgrade or Baghdad or Kabul or..’ is forever tainted by Labour.

McFadden? Whitehead? Scottish ancestry clearly.

The words fit and the tune is uplifting.

Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’re on the move!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’ve got the groove! There’s been so many things that’s held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin’ around
I know we’ve got, a long long way to go
And where we’ll end up, I don’t know
. But we won’t let nothin’ hold us back
We’re putting our selves together
We’re polishing up our act!
If you felt we’ve been held down beforeI know you’ll refuse to be held down anymore!
Don’t you let nothing, nothing
Stand in your way!
I want ya’ll to listen, listenTo every word I say, every word I say!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’re on the move!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!We’ve got the groove!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’re on the move!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!We’ve got the groove!
I know you know someone that has a negative vow
And if you’re trying to make it they only push you aside
They really don’t have, no where to goAsk them where they’re going, they don’t know
But we won’t let nothin’ hold us back
We’re gonna put our selves together
We’re gonna polish up our act!And if you’ve ever been held down before
I know you’ll refuse to be held down anymore!
Don’t you let nothing, nothing
Stand in your way!I want ya’ll to listen, listen
To every word I say, every word I say!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’re on the move!Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’ve got the groove!
Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’re on the move!Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
We’ve got the groove!

    1. Man oh man Sam thank you for that on such a dreich day, especially that revisit to the Atlantic Sessions McGarrigle number with an ascendant Karen Mathieson, Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, Rufus Wainright, etc., absolutely gorgeous.

  1. And the message of the year from Barack Obama’s presidential memoirs ” A Promised Land”
“To be Known. To be heard. To have one’s unique identity recognised and seen as worthy. It was a universal desire, I thought, as true for nations and peoples as it was for individuals.”

    1. Cracking quote Tom. Thank’s for this.

No plans to purchase the book but would love to know the context in which these remarks were made. Would give more confidence to refer to them again

      1. Briefly, Obama at the start of his presidency wanted a reset of US foreign policy; the US should be prepared to listen to other countries’ points of view. ” If we want other countries to support our priorities we can’t just bully them into it”
