There’s clearly no limit to how far or how low Common Weal‘s leadership will go to get back at the SNP Government for repeatedly ignoring them.
Six months ago they were pressing for mass testing. So was Jackson Carlaw because he knew it was something easy to nag the SNP about. Who could object to more testing?
Today, someone at Common Weal (The Grand Wizard?) has tweeted gleefully that England are going for it and might get there before Scotland.
Six months after their ‘press’, don’t we know that mass testing isn’t the answer and is probably a waste of resources?
On September 10th, in response to Boris Johnson’s promise of millions of tests a day, the Conversation published an extensive critique. They say:
Unfortunately, mass population testing is a flawed idea in search of science to back it up. It is unlikely to be the solution that sees us out of this pandemic.
That’s quite clear. They’re not offering any ifs or buts there.

These Are vital if not deployed failure assured
1.Reliable
2.Fast upon issue,taking, test and report
3.if 1 & 2 in operation
Fast targeted tracking & isolation
Along with highly focused testing
Used to develop a ever ongoing strategy
Failure in any of these 3 areas WILL result in the virus winning

O/T John, having just watched the Daily Covid Update, unless I am seriously mistaken by the journalist’s question and the FM’s response, DRoss had promoted pinching part of the consequential arts etc funding to support footie clubs in Scotland despite no such support in England from that fund… The Moray Motormouth strikes again ?

Apparently Trump was being tested regularly (daily?) but he caught the virus because he ignored the preventative measures being advocated by our government and other sane administrations around the world.
Presumably,once he caught the virus,the test would have confirmedit.
A bit like testing to see if you are dead or not.

Sounds like the Tories are plotting. Apparently “The Cabinet Office said disclosure of the documents “would weaken ministers’ ability to discuss controversial and sensitive topics free from premature public scrutiny”. The only information that has been made public by the Cabinet Office about the meeting is that it was about “the Union and devolution””
I wonder what they talked about?

Whatever it was, could it have influenced a speech at the tory Conference made by DRoss?
If so, was it written for him by Westminster? It seems to have echoes of “Come on, all you gloomsters and doomsters, don’t be so defeatist!”
And is it a speech designed to boost the troops or is it a Scooby Move, setting them up to take the blame if the tories fail? “And we’d’ve done it too, if it hadn’t been for those pesky realists…”

Might well have written the speech for him – the Hanbury Strategy website states “Our communications division will help you develop strategies to tell your story to the world in a compelling and consistent way.”

That red sign, ‘keep your distance’ is what you’d expect of councils in England. Here in Edinburgh there are signs with guidance and measurements with arrows so as people know how mush space to leave where possible and some of the roads are narrowed with bollards to leave room for pedestrians.
It’s about people being informed, taking responsibility. In England, red sign, no info, just ‘keep your distance’. People might be forgiven to ask why, and by how much? How different an approach, it’s obvious which is more effective.
