Scotland’s M74 is the most electric car-friendly motorway

More electric vehicle chargers are rolling out every day in countries around the world, but some places have been rolling out chargers more than others. In the UK, Scotland’s M74 is king of the charging hill. It has the most EV charge points per mile in Great Britain. The M74 goes approximately 40 miles from Glasgow toward the southeast. It has 3 EV charge points on it, with drivers hardly having to go more than 10 miles between stations.

Footnote: The Union flag above as it might look in a parallel universe where Ireland conquers it?

  1. I think charging points are mostly free in Scotland..a friend drove up north and said longest gap between charging points was 95 miles he has an older electric car, does 70 before needing charged, but newer cars can do many more miles before recharging.

    Sadly electric cars come at a cost, Lithium for the batteries. You don’t want deposits of the stuff in your country, it’s worse than oil, Latin American countries and I think some African countries have the stuff much to their detriment.

    1. I read recently (no idea where) that Lithium has been found in Cornwall in marketable quanities. Apparently it’s something to do with it being associated with tin ores, geologically speaking!


  2. I believe Glasgow university has developed a battery that is recharged by draining and replacing the liquid electrolyte. Could use existing petrol stations by installing separate pump. This battery had much greater range than present battery types and is much more environmentally friendly. Absolutely no chance it will be adopted by the industry!

    1. Is that the same as what used to be done with the old wet batteries? We had some that we ran a radio on, while living in a house with no electricity (back in the dark ages). The travelling baker used to exchange them when they needed to be recharged.
      Not sure how that would work to run an electic car though!
