New STUC boss joins Salmond pile-on on behalf of Labour

In the Herald today:

SCOTLAND’S top trade union boss has opened up about her experience of sexual harassment in the workplace as she raised concerns over the damaging fallout of the Alex Salmond case. Rozanne Foyer, the first female general secretary of the Scottish Trades Unions Congress (STUC), said the reaction to the former first minister’s trial “speaks volumes about where we are, culturally, with regards to women’s rights”.

Let me be absolutely clear. Sexual harassment in the workplace should be condemned. I’ve witnessed predatory behaviour by a few powerful males and one or two powerful females in Higher Education.

As a young man in a 1970s office environment, I experienced it myself from one predatory gay male and, on a daily basis, had inappropriate comments and pinches from older female staff.

I don’t question the impact of Foyer’s experiences but I do question the sudden willingness to use them to join in the acquitted Alex Salmond pile-on. Her ‘opening-up’ in the Herald comes suspiciously in the wake of the appalling interventions by Wark and Garavelli and thus does her no credit.

Foyer’s Labour membership is mentioned quietly down the page but not reflected upon:

In the Scottish Left Review in 2018, we see:

The Chair Kevin Lindsay, is the Scottish Organiser of ASLEF, and he along with John McDonnell MP, Rozanne Foyer of Unite and myself are all closely associated with the Labour Party.

In the Daily Record last February:

Now she’s about to unleash her charm on the public when she becomes the general secretary of the STUC. This was once a huge role in Scotland, as the spokesperson for all the country’s mighty unions and a key voice in a Labour-dominated nation.

Poor judgement or worse.

  1. Was she harassed by Alex Salmond? ‘Opens up’, ‘fall out’, hmm, it’s amazing how these people can construct a narrative that has very little if anything to do with the original case in point.

Of all the terrible things going on in the UK, at the hands of the English London based government, ie DWP sanctions, starving their own people(!)
nuclear subs near misses, total mishandling of Covid19 in England and the impacts of that on Scotland, BREXIT(!), etc etc, and these people decide that more demonising of an ex politician found innocent in a court of law, is appropriate right now. Scheming lying troughers the lot of them.

So what ‘fall out’ if she talking about? The one being constructed right now to further defame Alex Salmond by those who prefer not to reveal their real agenda? The ‘fall out’ they are orchestrating is hinged on attacking the SNP, hoping for max damage to the party and the independence movement. The BritNats in positions of power, or high office, are the ones who are guilty of an abuse of power, they seem very familiar with it. Sometimes when people point the finger, they should be looking in the mirror in fact.

I do hope people such as Rozanne Foyer do use the Forth Road bridge, (the new one that Labour and all other Britnat and Scot Greens parties voted against) or the SNHS, of the borders railway, or Scottish Water, or new essential roads etc, because they are all being built and/or protected by the SNP in government, to the benefit of all in Scotland. even the ones who would see the Scottish government removed and Scotland taken back decades. These enemies of Scotland are a disgrace to democracy, in hiding their true allegiances. Luckily, the alternative to the so called media, can ‘open up’ about what is really going on behind the cloak of unionism in the UK.

It’s good to ‘open up’ thanks Rozanne! 🙂

  2. Looking at this again, it ‘speaks volumes’ does it not, that Foyer is the FIRST FEMALE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE STUC. So much for er, women’s rights and equality. If she was neutral ie not a Labour party mouthpiece, I would say better late than never. Some political parties are a wee bit behind on those women’s rights and equality and the STUC are having a grand old time here in using a woman to undermine the SNP for their own agenda, but they just pointed out their historic and until now, utterly sexist arena.
