Ian Murray is getting a lot of press mileage out of the Nike Conference “Cover-up”
Murray continues to probe over Nike conference in Edinburgh
More than 70 Nike employees from around the world attended the conference in Edinburgh on 26 and 27 February 2020, and a BBC investigation found that at least 25 people linked to the event contracted Covid-19, including 8 in Scotland. At the weekend, in the Mail on Sunday, it was reported that several workers who came into contact with delegates, including kilt-fitters in Edinburgh and staff who shared a building with Nike in Glasgow, who also became unwell with flu-like symptoms a short while later – but were not contacted by health officials or told about the Nike link.
Mr Murray is concerned about the case of Gillian Russell whose concerns are described here and in several other articles in the Scottish press.
Coronavirus: Kilt maker at virus-linked Nike conference fears she ‘unwittingly spread COVID-19’Gillian Russell tells Sky News she developed flu-like symptoms after coming into close contact with Nike delegation members.
but note when the fitting took place and how many people were kitted out.
Ms Russell, a shop manager, helped to fit hire kilts for 10 Nike delegates, five men and five women on 24 February. Soon afterwards, she and several colleagues began to feel unwell.
It was on 24th February, two days before the conference (26-27 February) and the number of people she kitted out matches the Scottish contingent of colleagues.
So how did the ScotGov learn about the problem?
According to https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/nike-coronavirus-outbreak-timeline-how-22058228
Health Protection Scotland alerted by international authorities about one person, not from the UK, who tested positive after attending the conference. The public is not informed.
This report may be related, if one assunes that the Standard didn’t get the facts totally accurately.
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/nike-hq-shut-coronavirus-outbreak-london-a4377126.html
About 150 employees of the US sportswear giant were told to stay at home after a colleague returned from an overseas trip to one of the worst-hit areas, the Standard understands.
So we have someone who had close physical contact with the Scottish colleagues two days before the Conference began – two days before the rest of the attendees arrived.
Why should Health Scotland have informed her or done tracing on her?
If Mr Murray spent a little more time gathering the facts, and a little less time making statements to the press, we would all be a lot better off.
And those flu-like symptoms? Well it is unlikely that it came from the fitting session, isn’t it?

And it couldn’t be that in a major city awash with tourist from Italy, Spain etc no one came into her shop at that time who were, unknown to them and her, incubating the disease?
When did her flu-like symptoms start? If she has an antibody test, and these are now available, then that would confirm one way or another if she has had the disease. Would she take one?

Ah but truth is the valid currency which is firmly anchored in reality
In the case of Lord Haw Haw (Murray)
The last thing to carry upon his Ship of Fools is a anchor
So let all throw such a anchor called truth upon his doomed ship

Some additional information (you might say facts) which might have an impact on the Scottish Tories’ (including Ian Murray) attempt to call the Nike conference a cover-up.

I own a kilt shop in Edinburgh but will not divulge my identity asI’m also an SNP activist.
fitted kilts for this event, myself and the other staff members also became unwell. This is not a joke or BS. I’m keeping my mouth shut but the comments and the story are 100% wrong. I will not be going public as it will damage the cause.

So mr Kilt Shop,
Are you saying you hire out kilts to people and when you get them back you do not have them cleaned before hiring them out to the next customer ?

It does occur to me that the kilts might have had contamination but I think they always get cleaned between hires. That requirement is part of the reason it is so expensive.
I don’t think we have any data on how long the virus remains active on clothes – especially wool and cotton or linen.

No they are not thoroughly cleaned. No hire dry cleanes the outfits after every use as this depletes the thread count and the garment would rapidly deterate.

Do not believe you have a kilt shop
You can’t spell
You say you hire out dirty kilts to people
You would not last in business

So we have to choose between an anomous source “Kilt Shop” and the article full of references and dates.

The point remains that Health Protection Scotland operate autonomously as they do in all countries, the entire Murray/Smith fabrication pivots on SG controlling HPS which mechanisms simply do not and cannot exist.
There may be aspects which the Incident Team are retrospectively found to have missed or dismissed as significant during the response, but these are peripheral to what the Smith/Murray/etc smear campaign is about, a conspiracy theory akin to the US faking the Moon landings in a Hollywood backlot.
As with so many of these propaganda initiatives, the objective is to waste time examining minutiae rather than call it for what it is, GERS, or CRAP.
Murray has some serious mental issues, as the last Labour MP in Scotland not the most auspicious end to a once proud political force, perhaps a white jacket with lots of straps and buckles can be organised as a going away present. A matching gag might prove a nice touch…
