I visited my GP last week to report two minor ailments. I’m not telling you what they were! Anyhow, he seemed happy to deal with both. I’m fine. Thanks for asking.
However, once more, things seem to be different in the hostile environment of non-Scottish parts.
At first, I thought Pearson might be basing her opinion on a few anecdotes, as some journalists, I’ve heard from one or two friends, do. So, I had a google and found this from 2015:
GPs criticised for treating one condition at a time
A patient watchdog has criticised GPs for displaying signs telling patients that they will only deal with one condition at a time at routine consultations. Aneurin Bevan Community Health Council (ABCHC), which monitors health services in South Wales, said some practices are continuing either to put up signs or to tell patients verbally that they will not deal with more than one condition at a routine appointment, despite previously being warned it was ‘clinically inappropriate and indefensible’.
So, even, shock, in the Land of the ‘Chief Architect of the NHS’, Labour-run Wales, this cruelty is to be found.
What about NHS Scotland? I searched and searched. It just does not come up so it’s clearly no happening here pal!

Right! I’m going back to try them out with 5 ailments, mostly made-up. I’ll let you know.

There are signs in my surgery suggesting appointments are for one complaint at a time. However i have never felt this to be an actual problem . My gp routinely asks if theres anything else before the consultation ends. I suspect the signs are there incase a person comes in with a whole big list of illnesses to advise them to make a double appointment.

I can assure you 5 will not be a problem. I have multiple health issues and often have a little list to have a chat about things which are not a major concern but fall under the category of “whilst I’m here”.

Plus single appointments are ten minutes long but if you think you could fit five ailments in under ten minutes then go for it. I suspect you’d not get a very long response to each though or be asked to return for a double appointment if you needed them all dealt with appropriately.
