From Liam McArthur (Dim Leb Orkney) in Holyrood yesterday:
To ask the Scottish Government what the occupancy rate is of the separation and reintegration units (solitary confinement) operational in Scottish prisons, broken down by institution.
Humza Yousaf:
I have asked Colin McConnell, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), to respond. His response is as follows: On 30 October 2019 there were 121 people in our care temporarily residing in SPS’ Separation and Reintegration Units (SRUs).

You mean there is unused capacity in these units? What a waste of public money! HEADS MUST ROLL!!
This is the province of Reeval Alderson on the BBC and he is actually a principled reporter, so Reporting Scotland Wrongly probably decided not to do a piece, because Mr Alderson would probably have tried to put in some balance – as little as the editor would allow him.

15 unused spaces in these units at a purely made up cost of £300 000 per year, i.e. £4.5 million per annum, i.e. £90 million over the lifetime of Holyrood. Nearly £100 million!
So , £100 million wasted by Scottish Government on unoccupied Separation and Reintegrtaion Units. That is the unionist media headline.
