Supporting the Guardian if you are for Scottish Independence – an open letter to the editor

Katherine Viner, Editor, the Guardian, katharine.viner@guardian.co.uk Dear Katharine I’d really like to contribute to the Guardian but cannot because of the 12th September 2014 editorial, telling Scots to vote No in the referendum on independence, a few days later:  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/sep/12/guardian-view-scottish-independence In 1967, aged 16, starting Higher History classes in an industrial Scottish town, our teacher suggested we needed to start reading a serious newspaper, and on the following Sunday, I walked into town, had a look around and bought the Observer. I was stunned by its content. My parents took a tabloid, and I had no idea such rich, fascinating material … Continue reading Supporting the Guardian if you are for Scottish Independence – an open letter to the editor

The strange case of YouGov’s shrinking Glasgow samples confirms their polls to be purely propaganda

Support Talking-up Scotland to keep rebutting the lies almost every day of the year, at https://t.co/xFcIcegHTy I’ve written before about YouGov‘s unerring and almost unique (Survation too) ability to pluck a No lead out of a trend dominated by Yes leads, found by various other pollsters. It’s been a long time since they found a Yes lead. They seem to prevent it by adjusting (weighting) their sample to have 55% No voters and 45% Yes voters as in 2014 and thus get the same result ten years later. James Kelly of Scot Goes Pop has already reported on this at: https://scotgoespop.blogspot.com/2026/02/why-is-yougov-under-representing-yes.htmlContinue reading The strange case of YouGov’s shrinking Glasgow samples confirms their polls to be purely propaganda

As unelected Lib Dem MSP imagines ferry disruption but what 1 064 real users actually think? 80% satisfaction and half-empty car decks

Support Talking-up Scotland to keep rebutting the lies almost every day of the year, at https://t.co/xFcIcegHTy In the Ardrossan Herald two days ago: WEST Scotland Liberal Democrat [List] MSP Jamie Greene has hit out after it was revealed the cost of Arran’s newest ferry had now hit £197.5 million. It was confirmed last week that MV Glen Rosa, originally due to enter service in 2018, would now face an extra cost of £12.5 million. Nationalised [bad, to a newsrag owned by a corporation] shipyard Ferguson Marine confirmed last year that the vessel would not hit the waters until late 2026. Scottish GP’s rep lies about research based on only 222 out of nearly 5 thousand GPs claiming to be ‘burned out’ and to aid BBC Scotland’s fake news campaign to save their Anas

Support Talking-up Scotland to keep rebutting the lies almost every day of the year, at https://t.co/xFcIcegHTy Being reported repeatedly by BBC Scotland today in broadcasts and more fully on their website: According to the Royal College of GPs (RCGP), about a quarter of working time for general practice doctors in Scotland is spent supporting patients who are waiting for specialist appointments, placing a “significant and unsustainable pressure” on staff. RCGP Scotland vice chair Dr Chris Williams said: “When patients face long periods on secondary care waiting lists, they often return to general practice for ongoing care or as their condition deteriorates … Continue reading Scottish GP’s rep lies about research based on only 222 out of nearly 5 thousand GPs claiming to be ‘burned out’ and to aid BBC Scotland’s fake news campaign to save their Anas

‘Aggressive assertion’ in Spain and England fans – two former imperial powers – but Scotland fans’ jovial defiance ?

Support Talking-up Scotland to keep rebutting the lies almost every day of the year, at https://t.co/xFcIcegHTy Two stories today have got my goat. Yes, I know you know my goat well. First, in the Guardian today: ‘The referee has to be neutral’: Rodri claims Manchester City are victims of injustice – Rodri said: “I know we won too much and the people don’t want us to win, but the referee has to be neutral. It’s not fair because we work so hard. When everything is finished, you are frustrated.” https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/feb/02/rodri-referee-neutral-manchester-city-spurs ‘Rodri’, I thought, why do I already have a dim view … Continue reading ‘Aggressive assertion’ in Spain and England fans – two former imperial powers – but Scotland fans’ jovial defiance ?

Daily Mail report highlights the great CalMac service we all enjoy by looking at affluent Washington State’s far older ferries and failing services

In the Daily Mail, 8 January 2026 and the astonishing images above from the Independent two years ago: Almost a third of the lifeline ferries operating in Washington state are out of action because of lawmakers’ obsessions with electric boats, Republicans have claimed.  Six out of the 21 vessels used for critical operations off the coast of the Pacific Northwest state are currently unable to sail, according to the Seattle Times.  Two of the boats have been out of action due to ‘unexpected mechanical issues’ since January 1, while four are on planned maintenance, per the paper.  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15445653/washington-state-ferry-electric-boats-democrats.html Washington State Ferries carry 20 million passengers a year in a … Continue reading Daily Mail report highlights the great CalMac service we all enjoy by looking at affluent Washington State’s far older ferries and failing services

Far more police officers and far less crime – what today’s Reporting Scotland team will never tell you in this election year

In BBC Reporting Scotland’s, BBC Breakfast, inserts and all today today, you’ll be hearing this meaningless fact – ‘but officer numbers have fallen 5% over five years.‘ BBC Scotland, the Daily Record, the Herald and the Scotsman are now fully dedicated to platforming Scottish Labour’s stash of manipulated Freedom of Information data on any aspect of public service that might look bad for the SNP Government. Recently, it’s been police officers giving up on the job or failing training courses. I could try to dig into these and find the usual lack of any methodology and sneaky fiddling with the figures, I’ve found several times … Continue reading Far more police officers and far less crime – what today’s Reporting Scotland team will never tell you in this election year

‘Journalism fiasco’ – Islanders have actually been treated far better than the rest of us by this SNP government but the Herald still uses them to support the Labour campaign

Another ferry ‘fiasco report’ (placing the ‘ there makes it clear that the reporting is a fiasco in journalism) today. The facts hidden every time they write this rancid garbage: There’s a very significant background story never told of just how much this SNP Government has done to transform life on the islands, funded by the rest of us living often in less pleasant places and with never the suggestion of compensation because of limited public transport services. Here it is: The above chart from the Evaluation of Road Equivalent Tariff [RET] on the Clyde and Hebridean Network Prepared for Transport … Continue reading ‘Journalism fiasco’ – Islanders have actually been treated far better than the rest of us by this SNP government but the Herald still uses them to support the Labour campaign
