Why is only BBC Scotland telling you how bad things are?
There’s no daily update headlined as nearly 1 000 deaths in one day means a rate similar to that of Italy but even when you click on the updates, you only get this: No numbers, of cases or of deaths. Meanwhile in Scotland and, of course, headlined across the BBC UK broadcasts, you get this: Notice anything? More cases more deaths but no context. Continue reading Why is only BBC Scotland telling you how bad things are?
Why is BBC Scotland care home strategy not shared by BBC England?
BBC Scotland detects an opportunity in the care home sector as natural fears, misunderstanding, of staff on level of protection equipment can be exploited. BBC England have no comparable agenda and miss three cases in last 24 hours, one even reported by BBC: Beds, Herts & Bucks: Continue reading Why is BBC Scotland care home strategy not shared by BBC England?
Good Morning Scotland allows disreputable alcohol-funded lobbyists to undermine SNP minimum pricing policy
Credit to Brenda Steele for heroically listening to this and alerting me to it. Good Morning Scotland opens with: ‘And questions over the Scottish Government’s minimum unit pricing policy as a report suggests there’s been no fall in alcohol-related deaths.’ There then follows a debate where the interviewer does challenge the researcher from the Institute for Economic Affairs with just finding what they believed would be there anyway before allowing him to outline his findings. To be fair, another expert voice suggests it’s too early to draw any conclusions and refers to lower hospital admissions by those from more deprived … Continue reading Good Morning Scotland allows disreputable alcohol-funded lobbyists to undermine SNP minimum pricing policy
This blog’s getting far too negative so here’s a pigeon-linked infectious laugh that should go viral! And you can catch it for £0.68.
READ THIS: Scottish customer in French shop: ‘Oeufs?’ Assistant: ‘Douze?’ Customer: ‘Naw, Hen’s…’ In an attempt to fight these present-viral blues, I pulled the above off the shelf and read the section ‘Frecossais’. Somewhat cheered over the four pages, I came to the above, right at the end. I don’t often laugh out loud. Jaundiced or too far gone, I don’t know, but that had me in full chuckle and worked again and again for a good five minutes. I may be a bit odd but then so may you be. I can only hope. In the interests of the … Continue reading This blog’s getting far too negative so here’s a pigeon-linked infectious laugh that should go viral! And you can catch it for £0.68.
SHOCK: BBC Scotland misses BBC UK report suggesting Scottish Government doing well
Sourced by Donald McGregor: You can often find positive news about NHS Scotland and even the Scottish Government in BBC UK reports about what is happening in England. They don’t have that everyday predisposition to find something bad about Scotland that BBC Scotland has. Currently, they’re quite interested in criticising this right-wing Tory government which they know would happily shut them down and are prepared to use comparative evidence from Scotland if it suits their purpose. When they do this, they starkly reveal BBC Scotland’s bias by omission in ignoring the story. Yesterday, they had this: Thousands of people in … Continue reading SHOCK: BBC Scotland misses BBC UK report suggesting Scottish Government doing well
Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘shocking’ care home inspection report as covid-19 struck
Readers will remember the Glasgow care home with deaths linked to coronavirus. It was inspected last year and rated ‘adequate.’ In the last month, the Scottish care inspectorate inspected 145 care homes and found no failures. It was all over the Scottish media and BBC UK headlined it as of national interest. They didn’t report the above horror in Buckinghamshire. BBC Berkshire were not interested either. Just think what Lisa Summers could do with a story like this if only it was in, say, Dundee. Continue reading Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘shocking’ care home inspection report as covid-19 struck
Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘worse than appalling’ GP practice inspection report as covid-19 loomed
The Care Quality Commission report tells us that this GP practice is a serious risk to its patients. I don’t believe any Scottish GP practice has ever received such a report. Find one if you can. I’ll post it. BBC England and BBC Birmingham have no time for this story. Imagine, once more, it was in Scotland. Even better, for Reporting Scotland, imagine it was in the First Minister’s constituency. They do love reporting GP’s complaints about the Scottish Government. They have good contacts through Anas Sarwar. Surely, between them, they could come up with at least one with a … Continue reading Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘worse than appalling’ GP practice inspection report as covid-19 loomed
Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘appalling’ hospital inspection report
This report from the Care Quality Commission tells us that this hospital is a serious threat to life. Imagine it was in Scotland. Neither BBC England nor BBC West Midlands have covered this. I don’t believe there has ever been a comparable report issued in Scotland. Find one and I’ll post it. BBC Scotland’s Lisa Summer’s lone description of NHS Tayside’s Oncology Department as ‘dysfunctional’ was subsequently revealed to be mince, putrid mince. Imagine the BBC Scotland or Herald coverage. Continue reading Reporting Scotland staff shocked BBC England not reporting ‘appalling’ hospital inspection report
Report on only English nurses’ safety only in England against virus fundamentally compromised only in England by lack of personal protective equipment only in English hospitals only in England but sneaked into Scottish news
Prominently positioned in a Scottish newspaper with no indication for Scottish readers that it’s not about NHS Scotland. Most people only read headlines so: ‘Have you heard that Scottish nurses’ safety has been compromised?’ ‘No where did you see that?’ ‘Some newspaper. I dunno which one.’ Continue reading Report on only English nurses’ safety only in England against virus fundamentally compromised only in England by lack of personal protective equipment only in English hospitals only in England but sneaked into Scottish news
Why does Scotland’s new way of counting deaths not cause BBC UK to ask the obvious question?
The news that the Scottish Government is now presenting a ‘truer picture’ of coronavirus deaths to include cases where the virus may have been a contributory factor and to recognise the loss of life in ‘community settings’ has been big news across the UK media. BBC 1 News throughout the day, yesterday, gave it full attention but then, strangely to my mind, did not draw the obvious conclusion: ‘Should the UK Government not also be presenting a truer picture?’ Have I missed this somewhere? At the very end of a Guardian article: Comparable data for England and Wales from the … Continue reading Why does Scotland’s new way of counting deaths not cause BBC UK to ask the obvious question?
