Too few people are ready yet to really go for it

Lesley Riddoch above telling viewers that the SNP leadership is too comfortable in their jobs and that ‘to too many people, they look like they’re behind an ivory tower.’

I know, there are those in the SNP leadership a bit too comfortable but I remain convinced that the party heads inevitably toward independence and I see little evidence for Riddoch’s claims.

There is evidence from polls that voters think the SNP is out of touch but that is rarely on the push for independence.

YouGov and Survation in early 2026, had Cost-of-Living (48%) and NHS (39%), Housing, Education and Crime, all above Independence at 17%. https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/55758-scotland-political-snapshot-october-2026

I understand the impatience but it’s clear we have some way to go to convince voters andrushing into to an excited UDI will badly ‘scare the horses’ and set us back years.

A nice calm referendum squeezed out of a weakened Labour party and promoted in cohort with Wales and Ireland is what we need and can win. Ca’cannae.

  1. Well I got my “Choose Scotland” email today and signed up for the campaign. Link to a great wee campaign video too with truculent youth doing healthy outdoorsey things urging us to choose Scotland. A good start.

  2. How comfortable do people think SNP Ministers etc are in their jobs when they know each day whatever they do or any announcement they make will be criticised ad nauseam by the MSM or ignored completely? That sort of stress is debilitating but still they turn up and try to do their best for the people of Scotland.

  3. Yep it’s not a good time to start being so negative about the SNP, I mean we have enough of that via the BritNat English propaganda posing as the ‘media’. Disappointing to see Riddoch laying into the SNP right now, hmm.

  4. Scotland’s future is already decided unless we all wake up…and fast! Simon Hale’s excellent ‘Flag Factory’ article – https://bellacaledonia.org.uk/2026/07/30/the-flag-factory-who-really-runs-scotland-while-you-vote/ (see my comments/references) – all but predicted the reorganisation of local government and public services recently announced by John Swinney. Amalgamation of health and social care centrally neatly dovetails with e.g. the termination of individual health board IT services and the rollout of national centralised data services provided by multinational, mainly American, companies, supported by the AI datacentre infrastructure. And distances the Scottish Government itself from the catalogue of failure of the deprecated services, not least the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry. The naïvety of the Scottish Government in subjecting all of us to dystopian intrusion into our lives renders ‘independence’ meaningless. We’ll be as ‘independent’ as Greenland. In fact I wonder if instead of ‘free land’ we’ll have ‘three land’: Greenland, Iceland and Scotland all under American hegemony irrespective of illusory degree of ‘independence’ and militarily securing the incredibly inappropriately named GIUK gap. Still, at least we will have a half-native ‘King of Scotland’!

    1. Northern Ireland will leave the UK with most of its population, not least the non-nationalist business class now welcoming Irish reunification and the return to the EU. Many of the residual Unionist population will turn to Scotland and old or previously receding bigotries will be renewed together with an unfavourably altered independence voting balance. Add in the newly announced centralisation of public services, dystopian IT systems both hardware (hyperscale datacentres) and software from the usual multinational (largely US) companies, ushered in by a naïve Scottish Government still struggling to cope with the terms ‘electronic’ and ‘digital’. Plus the need for the US to control Greenland, Iceland and Scotland and therefore the appallingly named GIUK gap between the Norwegian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The current situation in Northern Ireland does no harm to American intentions, hence the recent pot stirring comments on reunification by our future half-Scottish president. If no-one can see this….we’re finished!

  5. Negativity does not help. Not sure about an ivory tower. SNP Conference the elected members are always totally approachable. Anyone can give their point of view. Just like All the members from the grassroots up. The SNP elected members and delegates understand the voters needs. That is why they keep on getting elected with massive majorities.

To get Independence people have to vote SNP and vote for Independence. Lesley is a bit out of touch.
