Has any country ever becoming independent of the UK or British Empire ever needed to explain how it would be able to pay pensions?
No. There is no historical precedent of a country becoming independent from the UK or British Empire being required to publicly explain, in detail, how it would fund pensions for its own population as a condition of independence.
What actually happened in practice
- Public officers / colonial service pensions: Independence negotiations routinely included Public Officers Agreements (or equivalent). The new government typically assumed liability for the pensions of British and local civil servants who had worked under colonial rule. https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1965/mar/08/colonial-service-officers-pensions
- Ireland (the closest parallel): Under the 1921–22 settlement, the Irish Free State took over responsibility for old-age pensions from the British Exchequer. The Treaty and related legislation also covered fair compensation for civil servants affected by the change of government. Ireland’s maximum State Pension (Contributory) is currently higher than the UK’s full New State Pension .
Regardless of how, does it not seem likely that Scotland would in the end pay a better state pension than the UK?
AI says no, revealing it’s programming methinks.

As always, look to Norway. Unemcumbered by the UK lies and mendacity, they.ve been able to build a huge sovereign wealth fund which makes Norwegian pensioners the richest in the world.

Scottish (UK) pensions are paid from Scottish revenues & taxes. The money goes down to the Westminster treasury and comes back up. Scotland pays its own pensions. There is no pension fund. It comes from yearly taxes.
If Scotland was Independent and not paying for Westminsters follies. Scotland could pay higher pensions out.
It was approximate £6Billion for Scottish (UK) pensions. £72Billion for UK. £66Billion rest of the UK costs. Scotland has more elderly people as a percent of population. The Scottish Gov has to mitigate pension cuts. .
