Alex Cole Hamilton leads the least powerful party in Holyrood yet dreams of power

Let onto the top of the front page of the Herald today, the above.

Oh, really, wee Eck?

Have a look at this.

Sox 65 MSPs gives you a voting majority and the SNP/Greens combination has 72?

Remind me how your wee gang of 10 gets you ‘the real power?’

Remind me Andrew Learmouth, why have you put your name to this?

  1. “Remind me Andrew Learmouth, why have you put your name to this?”, maybe ACH has now started to bully male journalists for a change?

  2. You wrote “Alex Cole Hamilton leads the least powerful party in Holyrood yet dreams of power”

This was the same ACH on whom the BBC reported in April 2026 that he “could back Sarwar as FM”.

He told the BBC back then that “if there was a chance to remove the SNP from power by backing a party “which shares our values, we will look seriously at that”, adding: “But I’m not going to make a commitment.”

Well Labour lost and Sarwar abandoned Holyrood for WM so that then shows just how bad ACH’s judgement really is.

One also wonders what exactly are these “shared values” that ACH declares his party, the Lib Dems, have with Labour , especially when the Lib Dems seem to be the preferred alternative option for disenchanted Tory voters in various elections.

Has he, ACH, told his HQ leader, Ed Davey, this ?

As last year Ed Davey was reported as having “written an open letter to One Nation Conservatives who feel abandoned by their party urging them to join the Liberal Democrats” .

I guess that was because Ed thought that the Lib Dems had “shared values” with the Tory party, so much so that he believed it credible that their (Tory) voters would choose them , the Lib Dems, over their usual party of choice, the Tory party.

I guess that makes a change from them, the Lib Dems, getting into bed with the Tories, which is what the Lib Dems did in 2010 in forming a coalition UK government with them.

That of course turned out to be disastrous for the Lib Dems, largely because they ended up betraying students in England and then targeted and demonised the most vulnerable within Britain in them and the Tories imposing austerity policies.

That then resulted in some academic studies estimating that the coalition Tory/Lib Dem UK government austerity policies introduced in 2010 were linked to between 120,000 and 335,000 excess deaths across Britain between 2012 and 2019.

Then the Lib Dems went from having 57 MPs in the 2010 UK GE to then just getting 8 MP’s elected in 2015 in the next UK GE, their HQ leader back then, Nick Clegg, then resigned.

Now these are the kind of examples that ACH would prefer no one promoted especially when he is promoting himself to be such a man of power and influence at Holyrood.

Pipe dreams is all that he really has.
