Here we go again!
Apparently, the evil nasty Scottish Government Ministers are about to “hammer hard-up Scots” because certain multi-buy offers are being banned.
However, as usual when these “SNP BAD” stories hit on our screens, a quick Google search explains what is actually happening.
Price reductions aren’t being banned by the SNP. What’s being restricted is the incentive to buy more than one through certain multi-buy offers.
A supermarket can still reduce a packet of crisps from £1.50 to £1. But what it can’t do is say “2 for £2” if the individual packets are still being sold for £1.50 each — that is the equivalent of encouraging folk to spend more money than they otherwise might, A.K.A., those hard-up Scots.
That’s the difference.
And honestly, how many of us have actually walked up and down the supermarket aisles and thought, “If they can sell two of those for a pound, why can’t they sell one for 50p? Rip-off merchants!”
Well, the Scottish Government is right behind you.
You can argue about whether that’s a good policy. But saying it will “hammer hard-up Scots” is political spin, not an established fact.
The biggest rip-off is those misleading stories that appear in the daily newspapers.
Buy one mischievous headline about Scotland, get another one absolutely free.
IMHO, the editors of the Scottish Daily Express et al can BOGER-OFF!

Possibly similar to some large supermarkets who have lower prices if you have their loyalty card. The price difference can be quite substantial.
