Readers will know that County Lines gangs terrorising Scotland from Dumfries to Wick, arriving here as ‘heavies’ from Liverpool, Birmingham, Bradford or London are never referred to in Scottish media, as Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Somali, Irish, Jamaican or, heaven forfend, ‘English’ though the communities they come from are described as such in England.
So, why is BBC Scotland so comfortable with ‘Vietnamese’ when refugees from Vietnam have been here from 1975 or perhaps earlier as the Communist takeover by drove millions out?
Simple? Just not good for the Union?
How do we know that, like County lines, this is another English invasion?
A 2010 academic study already examined organised cannabis cultivation, money laundering and child smuggling inside the UK Vietnamese community. By 2013 media and police reports described the model as established: converted houses used as grow sites, victims locked in as “gardeners,” and nail bars used to launder proceeds. Later English examples include:

Scottish reporting notes a sharp rise in Vietnamese victims from about 2018 and describes some of the later Scottish activity as an expansion of networks already operating in England.
