The Herald today has this:

Holyrood’s ‘rich list’: Scotland’s wealthiest MSPs revealed – Scotland’s richest MSPs have vast fortunes in property, shareholdings and business interests, an analysis of their declarations to the Scottish Parliament by The Herald can reveal.

MSPs are legally required to disclose details of their financial interests and benefits as well as any matter that could be perceived as influencing how they vote or position they take on policies.

Here are the top five:

Malcolm Offord, only second? Labour in third place? SNP and Greens don’t make it? Third and fourth less than a million?

‘Vast fortunes?’ What are they paying Herald writers these days?

There are around 30 000 millionaires in Scotland and only 2 or 3 in Holyrood?

So, that’s all quite good really, I’m thinking?

  1. These people have so much wealth they have no idea what it is like for Joe Bloggs trying to keep body and soul together for his family. Take Rachel Hamilton for example, she was fined £52K for breaching pension laws at her hotel in the Borders and still looks down her nose at people.

Borders MSP facing £52,500 bill over breach of pension laws

The cost of living is spiralling out of control and the first words out of the mouths of the wealthy is “cut Disability Benefits, Stop Triple Lock and Cut the Welfare Bill ” whilst it has been their policies, or the policies that they supported, that have resulted in so many companies being closed down, facing increased costs, etc. In England Westminister is quick to provide financial support but Scotland can be asset stripped and there are still those who are too blind to see.

Britain has the poorest State Pension in Europe and is also well below the National Minimum Wage take home pay of c£20.5K. A lot of today’s pensioners did not have the opportunity to subscribe to a Private Pension and the upcoming generation may find themselves in a similar position if the current trend continues. But, never mind, Prime Ministers have their salary and expenses paid for the remainder of their lives as well as a substantial pension and heavily subsidised food and alcohol when they visit Westminster (even if you only ho;d the position for 49 days!). MPs have a generous pension when they retire, or may even end up in the bloated House of Lords earning a meagre £371 per day and expenses for every day they attend.

Rachel Reeves, before she was Chancellor, stated she found it difficult to manage on £80K a year!
