So Sky News reported today that:
“British Steel losing £1.3m a day – and there is no ‘credible‘ survival plan yet, MPs warn”.
In a new report, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) warns that the government has not yet set out concrete plans for how the company will become financially sustainable. It continues to cost £1.3m a day of UK taxpayers’ money“.
(So I say that basically it seems then that no expense is spared when it is an industry that is based in England).
The article continued in stating that:
“The government intervened to prevent the closure of its blast furnaces in April 2025“.
“More than a year later, it could not set out what business model or decarbonisation pathway would put the company on a sustainable footing, the committee concluded”.
(So I say that it’s a bit rich of Labour in Scotland , in 2025, to once accuse the SNP of “wasting hundreds of millions of pounds in public funds and failing to implement a reliable, long-term strategy for Scotland’s lifeline ferry network” ).
Also funny is it not , that when it came to Grangemouth Oil Refinery , the Labour UK government “rejected nationalization, maintaining that keeping a fundamentally loss-making private oil-refining business running indefinitely was not viable“.
Yet somehow they, the same Labour UK government, “provided a £600 million loan guarantee to INEOS (who were the owners of Grangemouth Oil Refinery) for its Project One petrochemical plant in Antwerp, Belgium”.
(BTW this ‘loan’ to INEOS was originally a decision that was made under the previous Tory government, that was then left unchanged, as a decision , by Labour)
That is the same Labour UK government who were being regarded by many as nowt more than a continuity Red Tory UK government.
Also worth noting that the SNP highlighted in August 2026 that:
“Eighteen months after the Westminster Labour (UK) government pledged £200 million for Grangemouth following the closure of Scotland’s only oil refinery, not a single penny has been delivered“.
The SNP also highlighted the times when:
“A refinery in Lincolnshire (England again) was bailed out and when £100bn was found for English nuclear power plants” and they, the SNP, also added that”
“The Scottish Government has committed nearly £100m to Grangemouth, despite energy and economic powers being reserved to Westminster”.
So I wonder who exactly are all of those 37 Labour MP’s who were elected in Scotland in the 2024 UK GE really working for ?
Well obviously not so much for Scotland, as in the same Scotland that Labour’s former leader assured us would be “at the “heart of his Labour UK government”, more really Scotland once again being politically, economically and socially marginalized within their UK State.
Marginalised by a dominant English UK government that are based at the “heart” of what is considered to be England’s politics (that are badly) disguised as being UK politics , that is based at WM in the capital of England , i.e. London. (as is the UK PM – who now has, not just one but two number 10’s in England).
“Better Together” or for Scotland would it have been far far better for us had we voted to try to be far far Better Apart ?

Andy Burnham post on X 16 September
“Britain should be a country that makes things. It’s how we create good jobs, give more opportunities to young people, and build pride in our communities. That’s why today’s announcement from McLaren matters. They’re backing Britain, keeping design, engineering and manufacturing here at home – with plans to build their engines in-house for the first time. Their £500m investment will drive growth far beyond their factory gates, creating a thousand jobs, supporting thousands more in the supply chain, and providing apprenticeships to young people. This is what reindustrialising Britain looks like”.
The announcement was released by the UK Government in a press release :
“Boost for UK auto sector as McLaren unleashes £500m investment to help reindustrialise Britain“
“Britain backed to build as new £500 million investment will create 1,000 new UK jobs, including in Woking and South Yorkshire“
So “expand its world-leading R&D and production site in South Yorkshire“
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said: “McLaren is doubling down on Britain, keeping the design, the engineering and the building of every future car here, and taking on a thousand more people to do it”
“Their investment will create high-quality apprenticeships, jobs and drive growth far beyond their factory gates. It is how you get skilled work, decent wages and pride back into a place.”
“It’s this kind of partnership between government and business that will help us reindustrialise communities and make every part of Britain better off”
“I want young people to see that and know there is a future for them in making things, wherever they grew up“
First Secretary of State Louise Haigh said: “McLaren’s decision to significantly expand its footprint here in Britain is a vote of confidence in our advanced manufacturing sector and a testament to the world-leading skills and expertise we have in this country“
“Today’s investment will create hundreds of new high skilled jobs, including new apprenticeships for young people across the country. This government is committed to backing British business and driving good growth in every postcode“.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said: 2McLaren’s investment is a massive vote of confidence in Britain and our world-class automotive sector. It means 1,000 new jobs up and down the country, with thousands more supported across the supply chain – that’s boosting growth and making us all better off”
“This is all part of our Modern Industrial Strategy which is backing the car industry with billions of pounds in investment to help reindustrialise Britain. We’re creating the right environment so businesses like McLaren choose the UK.”
“During the visit, the Business Secretary and First Secretary of State will meet senior leaders, apprentices and workers at McLaren before touring its cutting-edge facilities and production lines”.
Also added in this UK government’s online press release announcement was this:
Note to editors: “The investment also builds on McLaren’s new design and innovation centre in Bicester, and a new engineering, testing, and vehicle development site at MIRA in the Midlands“.
So once again the UK government may promote this as a British/ UK boost however the jobs, the apprenticeships for young people, the reindustrialisation, the growth will mostly , as an investment, benefit England (alone) far far more than Scotland.
BTW “A cabinet minister has said carmaker McLaren’s investment in it’s UK facilities was a “huge opportunity” to address the “Neets crisis” in Surrey” (Neets – describes a young person ‘Not in education, employment or training)
That’s the pattern we always see happening irrespective of who, as a party, has been or is now the past/current UK government , where all investment is promoted as being ‘Best for Britain‘ but the details , when revealed , clearly show that it , as an investment , is one that usually only benefits specific places within England alone.

BTW – just saw this online
“NEW: Keir Starmer is now drawing up a resignation honours list despite promising not to do so if he became PM”.
The online Heartlands Tribune noted that:
“As Sir Keir Starmer reportedly compiles his own resignation honours list, one old clip deserves to be played back in full.
Because in June 2023 Starmer didn’t merely criticise Boris Johnson’s list. He attacked the whole grubby spectacle.
He accused Rishi Sunak of being “too weak” to block Johnson’s honours, demanded to know whether he would also “buckle” to Liz Truss, and declared that honours should reward “public service, not Tory cronies”.
Then, five days later, Starmer was asked directly whether he would issue a resignation honours list if he became Prime Minister.
His answer was unequivocal: “No.”
He said such lists were “very hard to justify” and added: “I think it’s easier to be clean about this and simply say, no, I wouldn’t do it“.
That’s Labour folks.
That is who and what people in Scotland voted for when they elected 37 Labour MP’s in the 2024 UK GE.
Frauds who promised so much in their own respective campaigns and also in the Labour party’s election campaign, then when elected they pledged allegiance to England and so then only praised England far far more than Scotland. (watch the weekly – short session – that is Scottish Q’s in the HOC’s , where Labour MP’s who were elected in Scotland regularly declare that England is far better than Scotland, so they, as elected Labour MP’s in Scotland must clearly see that as being their main job in the HOC’s at WM).
Party politics or rather playing politics taking priority over doing their actual job as political representatives for their constituencies within Scotland.
Didn’t the majority of them , as Labour MP’s elected in Scotland, all pander to, praise, defend and so then vote with Keir Starmer’s UK government in the HOC’s, that is when he, Starmer, was the former UK PM, just shows how bad their judgement and also their morals are, especially now that we all know what we know in respect to Sir Keir ‘U-Turn’ Starmer.
