Only 8% of the population but 82% of the oil and gas yet ‘UK’ gets 20 times the mentions in a BBC Scotland report

BBC Reporting Scotland in BBC Breakfast today and on their website, below:

In the text, ‘Scot’ appears only once in the 700 plus word report, 17 paragraphs down:

Both projects had already been given the go-ahead under the previous Conservative government but were successfully challenged in the Scottish courts on environmental grounds. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c65ym93p73xmo

‘UK’ appears 19 times.

What percentage of UK gas and oil is or could be raised in Scottish waters?

  1. Remember that BBC Scotland exists to run down Scotland, its people, its achievements, its government and any foolish aspirations of being an actual country.

BBC Scotland is a propaganda outfit dressed up as a broadcaster, nothing more.

  2. BBC website 14 September 2026:

“UK could ‘unlock’ 100 more oil and gas projects, say North Sea bosses”

I wonder if those soft ‘No’s’ to independence from 2014 are now reading that above article via the BBC website ?

That is post the 2014 Independence referendum.

Where it seems now to be a case of ‘UK‘ oil equals a potential bonus for the ‘UK‘.

Reverse back to 2014 and you would see the same BBC tell us that oil will run out in 5 years i.e. in 2019.

The above BBC article then states that:

“The UK could supply half of its oil and gas needs without imports if the government showed more support for the sector, an industry report claims”.

“Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) said changes to the windfall tax on energy firms and approval of the controversial Rosebank & Jackdaw fields could unlock 111 projects, attracting investment worth £50bn“

(Lucky old UK then , as in 2014 this same future for oil in Scotland was apparently far less optimistic as back then it, as a resource, was dwindling , very volatile , a curse, worthless and apparently would, as a future resource, be of no practical nor economic value to a future independent Scotland).

Online information states that currently the Oil in the North sea is:

“Actually belongs to the private companies that extract it under licenses granted by the UK government”

So then “private energy companies and multinational oil companies make the most financial profit from the North Sea oil and gas fields, while the UK Treasury collects tax revenues“.

Meanwhile below is what an independent Scotland could have had but unfortunately do not have , thanks to the various greedy, selfish, exploitative and short sighted UK governments:

Norway’s Oil – “The Norwegian government receives the vast majority of the profit from Norway’s oil and gas fields through high taxes, direct state ownership, and company dividends”

“Norway’s main sovereign wealth fund (the Government Pension Fund Global) gets its money from the surplus revenues of the country’s oil and gas production“.

“Norway’s sovereign wealth fund (the Government Pension Fund Global) is worth approximately $2.3 trillion (around 22.7 trillion Norwegian kroner) as of mid-2026″

    Better together ?

    Really ?

    For whom ?

Also how , why and actually when ?
