Reform UK’s funding lead over Labour is far less than Labour’s over the SNP – does the latter damage democracy too?

In the Guardian today, the Labour Party rails against the apparent injustice of another political party getting bigger donations than they get and, thus damaging democracy.

According to the Electoral Commission, in Quarter 1 of 2026, UK Labour received from private donors just over £4 million, the Tories – £4.2m, Reform UK – £9.2m, the Lib Dems £2.3m and the SNP just £125k.

So, the Labour Party has had 32 times as much as the SNP with no apparent concerns about democracy raised though both must campaign across UK media, for support.

The latest donations to Reform UK takes their total to £ 81m, 20 times the Labour donations but far less unfair than the Labour’s 32 times greater than the SNP donations.

  1. Excellent point, well observed. But of course brass-necked hypocrisy and double standards are always in plain view when it comes to how the SNP are judged by media and unionist politicians.

  2. The issue really is where Reform is getting its money from and therein lies the danger to democracy, I feel. cryptocurrency billionaires pumping huge amounts of money into a UK political party for what devious reasons is what we should be questioning. I think it’s extremely unhealthy and smacks of something sinister. Similar shenanigans are going on in the US, but we shouldn’t be surprised there. But that’s just my point of view, although I do get it as regards the Labour/SNP differential and we all know that much of the private donations to the Unionist parties in Scotland are for the purposes of working to destroy the SNP and any hope of independence.

Crypto Billionaires now own Reform, going down the tubes anyway. Laundering dirty money to Farague so he can do their dirty work. Do their calling. Bad influence.

Labour is funded by the Unions. Tories funded by the bankers. SNP funded by its members and others who support Independence. Amazing electoral victories supported by the people.
