The UK media today have blanket coverage of a Royal College of Emergency Medicine survey suggesting:

The RCEM are now calling for the Government to take “immediate action” after quizzing 2,126 staff in emergency departments. They found 96% have experienced violence or aggression from patients or other members of the public.

And some 73% said this happened weekly or even daily. Two thirds said the incidents involved discrimination against them.

I can only see the media coverage and not the full report to see if the survey sample includes NHS Scotland. Further, I can see no A&E specific data for Scotland, so:

The article states that a total of 51,170 violent incidents were directed at all NHS staff across Scottish health boards over the five years from 2019, and that:

However since 2019, numbers of incidents across Scotland’s health boards have gone down. Between 2019 and 2020, 11,775 violent incidents were recorded while in the period of 2023-2024, this went down to 8,623.
