Fifty firms in Scotland have been revealed on a UK government list naming and shaming employers that failed to pay staff minimum wage.

Three of the companies topping the list in Scotland – including North East bakers Murdoch Allan & Son – each owed more than £20,000 to underpaid workers.

The Department for Business said 658 employers across the UK have been ordered to repay £4m after more than 27,000 workers have been left out of pocket. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8xywk6y1no

BBC News across the UK is showing little interest in this and, where they are, on BBC Business, they’re not wondering if it is more or less common in Scotland.

BBC Scotland, of course, just want you to think it’s bad here and, hopefully, might make you think that that John Swinney is to blame for not doing something about it, in the same way they imply he should be running directly and daily, all the health boards, the ferries and Police Scotland.

Is it more or less common?

Given that, after 2 decades of centre-left government here, and centre-right, even right, there, everything here tends to be at least a bit better here, my moneys on Scotland.

So, 50 in Scotland not paying the minimum wage?

By this time, a class of 11 year-olds, would have done the sums already.

All things being equal, with 12 times the population, the UK figure should be around 600 but it’s 658, almost 10% more!

That’s statistically significant. We’re different enough to make a difference and with all the other differences, part of a persuasive case for independence.

Other differences?
