In July 2026 NHS Scotland’s full, consultant led, Type 1 emergency departments, 148 029 attended and 65% were treated within 4 hours. https://www.publichealthscotland.scot/healthcare-system/urgent-and-unscheduled-care/accident-and-emergency/interactive-charts/number-of-attendances/

In NHS England the equivalent figure was 61.7% treated within 4 hours. https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/ae-waiting-times-and-activity/

That 3.3% difference seems at first small, but when you consider it in the context of the 148 000 attending, it matters. Had they lived in England, 3.3% of that 148 000, 4 884 would have not been treated in time.
