Scottish BBC licence tax payers contributed £313m last year.1

Amongst other things, for that, they expect a flagship news report three times a day to alert them and to advise them on what is happening and what they should be aware of. It’s called public service broadcasting.

How many, typically, do watch for that reason?

Around 240 000. 2

So, how much are Scots paying, each, to be able to access that public service?

Just over £1 300 for, of course, ‘mince’ as media gurus say.

  1. It looks like, ( bag of a fag packet calculation ) an audience of around 5% for each show, on those figures.

    That means around 1 in 20 of the population watch a show, which is funded by a compulsory charge on every household in the country.

    This is not a fair charge when so few actually use what is billed for, time to scrap the bbc in Scotland, & take broadcasting under Holyrood control.

  3. haven’t bought a licence and haven’t watched any live tv for years. I don’t miss it and never will. I do, however, receive a couple of threatening letters each year. The ones typed in red ink, with pretend official seals and threatening court action when I’ve done nothing illegal.
    I hate the BBC and all who work there.
    The sooner their anti-Scottish propaganda unit closes the better.

  4. BBC costs £6Billion. Half goes on the estate. Empty building etc. They get some back from selling programmes.

    The licence fee does not cover it. It is maintained by tax revenues. Scotland pays Westminster too much in tax revenues, False accounting etc.

    Scottish tax payers are being stung for £1/2 Billion. For Westminster sponsored BBC rubbish, when they could buy in better programmes, that people in Scotland want to watch.

    Netflix, Sky etc is paid by subscription. A double whammy on consumers. Youngsters watch the internet. More subscription.
