Apprenticeships in Scotland.
Since the formation of the national skills agency in 2008, more than 400,000 apprenticeship jobs have been supported and funded by the Scottish Government. [1, 2]
Annual funding targets support tens of thousands of participants across three main pathways:
- Modern Apprenticeships: Aimed at those over 16, with around 25,000 to 25,500 new starts funded annually.
- Foundation Apprenticeships: Designed for school pupils, providing around 2,500 to 5,000 starts per year.
- Graduate Apprenticeships: Allowing individuals to work and earn up to a Master’s degree level, with approximately 1,200 starts supported annually. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
In total, ongoing investments of approximately £198 million support around 39,000 to 40,000+ apprentices actively in training at any given time. You can explore these statistics further on the Scottish Apprenticeships portal. [1, 2]”
Also helps the apprentices that they qualify for a free bus pass which will help with the cost of getting to their work and to College

Scotland low unemployment. 3.9%? 1 in 20 neurodiverse. Now getting more support. Amazing talents. Young folk more encouragement. Diversity and social improvements. Uni, colleges, apprenticeships. The highest in the world.
Scotland the land of discovery and invention would be better off Independent.
Internet shaped the modern world. Scotland TV, radio, telecommunications. To internet. Scotland has always supported young folk and education. First country to have tertiary education. 14. 15 unis. The highest number per population. Higher qualified and paid teachers. Classroom assistant for diversity. More trained teachers. Big improvement.

At the risk of being called “doom and gloom” again, some perspective on the most recent figures for Scotland:
About 56,000 school leavers each year.
Over 17,000 secure university places.
Over 25,000 secure apprenticeships.
Around 13,000, therefore, “missing out” somehow?
I had reason to look at the annual
report of Skills Development Scotland (“SDS”) recently.
Over 400,000 apprenticeships since 2008 is at risk of creating one of those big numbers over a number of years like many politicians love to do to us.
It’s an average of around 25,000 per year.
The trend in apprenticeship-start figures, however, shows that Scotland has fewer new entrants than in 2019–20 before the pandemic, despite SDS celebrating improvements in completion rates and skills outcomes.
To be fair, SDS emphasises that 25,507 starts in its most recent year met the Scottish Government target and that “achievement rates”
are at a record high.
SDS frequently highlights completion rates, employer satisfaction and qualification levels. Critics argue that these measures can obscure wider problems, such as the absolute number of apprenticeship starts which appears to be flat, regional disparities and the difficulty many young people face in securing placements in the first place.
We may agree to differ on this.
Incidentally my reason for looking at the SDS annual report recently was to look at executive pay and pension benefits in that particular Quango. I leave others, who may or may not be interested, to go there for themselves, or not.

BBC ‘Scotland’ is at it again….but then, (big sigh), that is what we have all come to know and expect by this British propaganda outfit that works relentlessly for the sustainment of their UK State.
MSM Monitor added a post via BBC Radio Scotland (sourced from an accusation by the Labour leader of the Council in Edinburgh against the Scottish government- the SNP).
The BBC Radio Scotland post on ‘X’ stated this:
“Edinburgh City Council leader Jane Marr says Glasgow is being prioritised over Edinburgh when it comes to fire recovery funding. Do you think the money is being shred fairly” ?
“Has Edinburgh being short changed” ?
“Mornings ask – Has Edinburgh been short-changed with the Fire Fund” ?
(BBC Radio Scotland having yet another phone in for certain people to have yet another opportunity to attack the Scottish government – the SNP , purely based on accusations made by a member of the opposition party -Labour, while also the BBC misrepresents the attack being made by that Labour opposition politician).
MSM Monitor had to correct this info posted by BBC Radio Scotland when he added this below response on ‘X’:
“Three important points.
1. She’s a *Labour* councillor.
2. Her name isn’t Marr, it’s Meagher.
3. She isn’t complaining about the funding amount [She confirmed this in the phone-in]. She’s complaining about the response.
Clumsy and transparent propaganda by BBC BritNat”.
Well done MSM Monitor for noticing this.
As the BBC failed to add the party Ms Meagher represented.
They, the BBC, could not even write her correct surname .
They, the BBC, completely misrepresented the complaint .
I honestly do not know either how nor why this so called news section of the BBC within Scotland are allowed to do this kind of botched hatchet job on the Scottish government (the SNP) time and time again.
They, the BBC, are clearly , as supposed news providers, not fit for the purpose of communicating that news within Scotland , but instead they are, it seems , just allowed to constantly misrepresent information to the public that predominantly, as supposed #Badnews, is always mainly targeting the SNP .
This constant stream of disinformation comes with no punishment for them, as it seems that the so called media regulator that supposedly exists within the UK State is itself also unfit for the purpose it was supposed to fulfil.
Of course this noticeable constant bad behaviour and poor practice is allowed to exist because it seems that neither the BBC nor Ofcom cares about the lack of quality in the news output within Scotland. (indeed it seems to be encouraged as a behaviour as it happens so frequently).
In fact one would be correct in thinking that the more disinformation there was against the SNP, as a party and as the Scottish government, then the better that is seen to be for their UK State to be sustained.
The problem with this British Broadcasting Corporation being allowed to broadcast news within Scotland is that they, as a (fake) news provider, do not want to produce news for Scotland’s benefit and welfare, but instead they want to produce news that is patently working against Scotland’s best interests, politically , economically and also culturally.
The BBC , like pro UK political parties, are still actively campaigning for their UK State , a UK State that they sometimes laughingly call a ‘Union’, while they are also pretending that the constitutional question is now settled.
It is not, hence why I write that they, opponents of Scottish independence, are ‘pretending’ the constitutional Q is settled.
If that was really the case , as in the constitutional Q was indeed believed to be actually finally settled, then the BBC would not need to still behave in the way that is always does (i.e. badly) , particularly when it comes to their producing so much (fake) news about Scotland.
(Especially their supposed ‘political’ news within Scotland , i.e. political news that both shields and protects pro UK parties while also they , the BBC, are clearly voracious in their orchestrating constant attacks against the SNP to try to harm them politically).
