Scottish Labour and their wee pals at the Daily Record suggesting the SNP Government knew before the 2026 Holyrood Election that they would cancel the construction of a new Monklands hospital after that election.
Here are the facts.
Documents obtained and reported, ironically, by the Scottish Mail on Sunday, the Daily Record‘s sister paper on 2 August 2026, show that in March 2026, before the election, NHS Scotland Assure (the body that reviews major NHS construction projects) advised ministers after a cost review. It stated that “on current evidence reviewed, NHS Scotland Assure would not recommend immediate progression to construction.”
What did the Scottish Government actually say?
On 25 June 2026, Health Secretary Angela Constance announced a “formal reset” of the Monklands Replacement Programme in a statement to the Scottish Parliament (and via an official gov.scot news release). https://www.gov.scot/news/health-secretary-updates-on-nhs-capital-projects/
and:
The Government will deliver a new Monklands hospital. That commitment has not changed and it will not change.” The new hospital is to be built on the Wester Moffat site in Airdrie. Core services, including A&E, will be retained in the new acute hospital.

Scotland spends £13Billion+ social care. To mitigate Westminster cuts. Westminster did not increase NHS funding for ten years (Tories). Then funded Covid £270Billion over two years, Fraud played a part in the spending, Making Tories and their associates wealthy. Death money.
If Scotland received total spending due. Many more hospitals could be built. @ illegal Barnett Formula. Misappropriation of Gov spending by Westminster. Tax evasion, Brexit losing £Billions. The increased wealth of the wealthy. Life expectancy falling.
The SNP mitigating the cuts to budgets. Westminster borrowing and spending more (pro rata) in the South.

Talking of healthcare I saw this online from Rupert Lowe in a post on ‘X’ dated 5 August:
“Under a Restore Britain Government, private healthcare costs will become tax-deductible. Care will be come far more affordable for millions of Brits. Our plans will hugely ease pressure on the NHS, and save you thousands of pounds. Private healthcare is not our enemy”.
“Care will be come far more affordable” ?
More affordable than now , via the NHS , which is FREE AT THE POINT OF DELIVERY ?
“For millions of Brits” ?
How many million ?
What level of service will those “millions” get via private healthcare, that is will it still be dependent on how much you can pay (via premiums) that then determines the level of service you get ?
What about those who cannot afford private healthcare ?
Rupert Lowe is just like Nigel Farage he seeks to preach and so convert Turkeys into voting for (his version) of Xmas.
Also why are there “huge pressures on the NHS” in England ?
Is it because it is being so very badly managed and funded by various UK governments.
Also in 2016 the BMA in England reported, via a survey , that:
“Two thirds of doctors are uncomfortable with “privatisation” of the NHS in England and the growing role of independent sector organisations in providing NHS services”.
“In a report published on 18 April (2016) the BMA examined how much NHS money was being spent on independent providers, the effects of independent providers taking over NHS services, and the opinions of around 500 doctors on these issues”.
“The most common concerns cited were that private provision destabilised and fragmented NHS services and did not offer value for money”.
Since 2016 this situation has become worse with subsequent UK governments wanting more privatisation involvement with the NHS within England (remember 2016 was the year of the EU referendum and that was when people within the UK were told by the Vote Leave side that “We send the EU £350 million a week, let’s fund our NHS instead” .
It was reported in a BBC article in 2016 in a headline that stated:
“EU referendum: The politics behind the £350m figure”.
The article stated this:
“From its earliest days the Vote Leave campaign believed that Britain’s financial contributions to the EU would be one of its main trump cards during the referendum“
“Over the summer of last year the campaign leadership took a decision which has dogged them to this day. They would highlight the overall, or gross, figure Britain contributes to the EU without taking account of the special rebate Britain receives back from the EU or billions of pounds in subsidies from Brussels”
“Vote Leave campaign therefore took out their calculators and used Britain’s annual £18.8bn contribution to the EU in 2014 to give them one of their main campaign messages” as in if you “divide £18.8bn by 52 and you come up with the figure of £350m”.
Yep and they also -the UK government- never matched, via their so called “levelling up fund”, that same amount of money it got back from the EU, as EU members, for funding projects various areas within the UK.
That included projects within Scotland that helped fund major infrastructure and innovation projects as well as research projects and community and employment schemes.
Rupert Lowe supported Leaving the EU (of course he did) , but then Lowe is yet another one whose ‘political’ arguments are being made to support those who only seek to feather their own nests.
Restore Britain is an English Nationalist party led by a English Nationalist who frequently refers to England in his ‘X’ posts – examples being when he said on February 25 2026:
“An Englishman’s home is his castle, so I am particularly delighted to launch Restore Britain’s newest policy paper – ‘Retaking the English Castle’.” (he also added this comment onto the same post “This is a detailed set of policies restoring the right for proper self-defence to decent British men and women. We live in an increasingly unsafe country, through no fault of our own – both domestic and foreign criminals are threatening the lives of law-abiding British citizens”).
So Rupert can stick his “Private healthcare” where the sun does not shine.
