Scotland soon to produce enough electricity from wind to power between 4 and 6 times as many homes as we actually have

Another two million? I keep seeing headlines like that and have done for years now.

With this added how many homes can Scotland’s windfarms now power?

With this addition, Scotland’s total wind capacity can now support the equivalent of roughly between 10 and 15 or more million homes (annual average generation), depending on exact current totals, load factors, and calculation methods. https://www.sserenewables.com/offshore-wind/operational-wind-farms/seagreen/

How many homes are there currently in Scotland?

As of the latest official statistics (31 March 2024), Scotland had an estimated 2.73 million dwellings (homes/housing units). https://www.gov.scot/publications/housing-statistics-2025-key-trends-summary/

What should Scotland do with the power for the other, at least, 6 million homes?

AI has lots of good ideas but it clearly knows nothing about the history of Scotland within the Union these last three centuries and more.

  1. But wait till they get those AI centres foisted on us. They will need a small nuclear doodah for every one.

  2. So Scottish tidal power (we want our maritime boundaries restored) for baseline grid support supplemented by (rapid) flywheel storage, grid inverters for wind/solar and (slower response) pumped-hydro (PHES), compressed (or liquified) air (CAES), thermal and gravity storage (revitalise old mineworkings), hydrogen/ammonia (power-fuel-power) PLUS solar and wind (see above) on top. If only I lived in a country with such resources (hang on…I DO!!) and not dominated by a rapacious neighbour getting a fast turnaround with new grid links and BESS, totally unnecessary hyperscale datacentres to be followed by nuclear (power and waste) imposition (oh well…). Scotland should be generating free, relatively clean, energy for its population and making a fortune from its energy exports. As we should have from oil, eh Professor McCrone?
