BBC Scotland‘s insert this morning in BBC Breakfast shows them keen to make something of three recent warnings about swimming in Scottish bathing spots at Ardrossan, Portobello and Kinghorn in Fife. There is no fuller account on their website.
All three warnings appear to have been lifted but that doesn’t seem to be ‘the news‘ for the public in Scotland as we begin a wee heatwave.
What’s the bigger picture across the UK?
From the Guardian on 27 November 2025, the above and:
One in seven (13%) of England’s bathing waters are rated as polluted, and one in 14 so polluted they are not recommended for swimming. Famous beaches including Bognor Regis, Scarborough’s South Bay and Littlehaven Beach in South Shields were all rated “poor” in the latest classifications from the Environment Agency, which means they are not recommended for swimming. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/nov/25/one-in-seven-english-bathing-spots-rated-as-polluted-in-latest-testing

Record number of Excellent Bathing Waters in Scotland for 2025 – In 2025 the highest number of Scotland’s bathing waters on record will meet the best environmental standards, with 87% achieving Excellent or Good classifications. If you’re swimming today, take care. It’ll still be a very cold shock.

The BritNat media hates that Scotland’s water is in public hands, counter to the lies from Labour. Especially bad for the BritNats that there is no deliberate (far as we know) dumping of effluent into Scotland’s rivers etc.
I’m wary of buying English grown veg (and there’s lots of it in the shops now!) because I fear it’s been watered with er less than clean water…

Hello AT, next time your out and about, look out for a bulk tanker sitting in a layby, if there is a tractor there to, there’s transferring sewage sludge to be spread on the farmers fields.
Between 2020 and 2024, 643,000 tonnes of sewage sludge were spread across Scottish fields, primarily in agricultural hotspots like Perth and Kinross, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders.
Best wash your fruit and veg no matter where it comes from.
