The leader of the Conservatives at Fife Council has quit the party – and made the shock move across the political divide to join Labour.
Councillor Kathleen Leslie [above] said she was “increasingly unable” to support the Tory Party’s positions on “everything from migration to foreign policy to welfare reform” and said she was a “better fit” as part of Labour’s minority administration at Fife House.
The Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy councillor, who was elected in 2017, confirmed she had also recently resigned from the Conservative Party “following much thought and reflection.”
Why did Leslie’s name and portrait trigger bad memories?
In the run-up to the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, while active on social media (but before becoming a councillor), Kathleen Leslie posted a series of derogatory tweets about Nicola Sturgeon. Examples include calling her a “drooling hag,” “wee fish wife,” and other insults like “Wee Jimmy Krankie.”
Then in 2017, she was struck off the teaching register:

This ‘defection’ simply underlines the fact that the anti-SNP factions in Scotland see no conflict in switching from one unionist party to another .
In fact , they do not even need to utilise the old Groucho Marx quote on ‘principles’ – as they clearly have none !
