‘Scottish taxpayers and billpayers are likely to share the cost and risk of Sizewell C even though the plant is being built in England’

Thanks to Dottie for alerting me to this.

In the Guardian today, the above and:

The cost of the government’s £38bn nuclear plant in Suffolk is subject to “significant uncertainty” and may outweigh the benefits for UK households until at least 2064, according to the government’s spending watchdog.

The National Audit Office (NAO) has warned that although the potential benefits of the Sizewell C nuclear plant are considerable, they remain uncertain. The risks, however, are “immediate, substantial and borne by the public”.

Which ‘public?’ Surely not Scots, 400 miles away in the midst of renewable power surpluses?

Dear chatgpt, will taxpayers in Scotland pay the price too for this – https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/may/20/spending-watchdog-warns-38bn-cost-of-sizewell-c-nuclear-plant-is-risky

  1. Just wait till Ed Miliband, (or one of his Scottish flunkies) announces new super-duper, “ignore the Jocks” rules to build Nukes in Scotland.

Nukes, like the original Torness, to provide power for England, yet somehow we will pay for it and the consequences.

Oh, and seeing you “Jockos” are part of the Nuke economy, we think the waste should come to you as well.

The UK government has stated that promotion of SMRs that are being built in the Midlands is to revive industry there. You might have noticed that while steel production, car manufacturing, renewables infrastructure, carbon capture et al are being heavily funded in England, there has been absolutely nothing for Scotland.

  2. These things are part of the GERS lie.

They are counted as expenditure for the Scottish Government, which contributes to the ‘deficit’ in the Scottish budget. Cue sneers from the unionists.

But, blatantly ignoring the contradiction, they also claim that this imaginary sum is part of ‘the union dividend’ being given to the Scots.
