  1. We may feel the state broadcaster is creating this interest, but another view might be that the interest (among Unionists and a few others) is already there.

    Witness the number of times “ferries” are mentioned in social media posts, email and letters to newspapers etc.

    I do agree, however, that the timing of Lesley Riddoch’s comments was ill-advised or myopic.

    The frenzy will only die down after the election and when the new vessels and maintenance issues are better presented. This is not the time. It just seems to give the story even more legs, even if it is largely fake news.
