The Glasgow waste depot workers strike, Anas Sarwar and Holyrood Election 2026 – GMB won’t eat with rats but will work with them to save their ‘Marriage made in Hiroshima and Chernobyl’

Nicely timed for the next Scottish election, the GMB staff at the Polmadie waste recycling centre in Glasgow have been called out by their Labour-affiliated leaders.

They did the same thing, again in alliance with the city’s rats, furry and Labour versions, in October 2021 to try to undermine the SNP Council and SNP Government:

Cleansing staff in Glasgow have confirmed they will strike for a week during the COP26 climate summit. Members of the GMB union voted to strike last week and gave local authority body Cosla until Monday to table an improved pay offer.

The GMB has a long history of Unionist politically-motivated actions.

In the Herald 11 November 2024:

SNP workers’ rights policy is no more than feel good fluff

Employment law is, of course, reserved to the UK Government1 and Scottish Labour, in 2023, under a Tory government, with no interest in improving employment rights, would not support a motion calling for the devolution of employment law – despite a manifesto pledge to back the policy.2

Readers will remember that Scottish Labour Leader, Anas Sarwar, has previous on this:

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has confirmed that not all workers at his family’s wholesale business are currently paid the real living wage. His party wants to introduce new minimum rates of pay linked to the cost of living as part of its “new deal for workers”. Other parties accused him of “hypocrisy” over the policy.3

Why?

GMB is one of the founder unions of the Labour Party (dating back to 1900) and remains one of its three largest affiliates. This gives GMB formal influence inside the party: seats on the National Executive Committee (NEC), voting rights at Labour conference, input into policy-making, and the ability to sponsor or support Labour candidates.

What is one of the most important policy-making factors for the GMB and its members other than for those council refuse staff on low wages?

Skilled well-paid members building nuclear submarines and nuclear power stations.

A marriage made in Hiroshima and Chernobyl?

Are the low-paid council workers being exploited by their union leaders here?

    1. “Birmingham anyone”?

      Indeed.

Things are so very politically desperate just now for Anas Sarwar, but his mates , as in his Labour colleagues in the GMB, will attempt to come to his rescue……with both of them hoping some Scots know nowt about the Labour Birmingham bin strike, where the Labour Council are being supported by the Labour UK government, in respect to their terrible treatment of the bin workers in Birmingham.

Birmingham bin strike ongoing for over a year………

Strike is being led by Unite Union……who are reported as those “representing refuse workers in a dispute over pay cuts and the removal of senior roles. The action involves over 100 workers, with staff taking industrial action against proposed pay reductions of up to £8,000”.

Starmer is a big fat liar when he declared that “Labour were the party for working people”…..ask any of the workers anywhere and they will all beg to differ.

  1. GMB, ahh yes the Labour union which together with their Lanour Coincil shafted all their female GMB union members for years and years and cost the population of Glasgow hundreds of millions. That union.

  2. If that wee rat Mitchell of the GMB and his mate Sarwar are present then the workers will not only be eating with ”rats” but sitting down with them !

  3. Rat infestation is controlled by people who live or work in locations taking positive actions to deny the rats food, by blocking their access points and by cooperating with public health to trap and poison the rats. Clearly, their leadership sees the rats as allies and do not see that they have any responsibility in controlling them.

It appears that the publicity seeking GMB representative of what is a thuggish, misogynistic trade union. My father was a member when it was just called the Boilermakers’ Union after the First World War. As a lifelong trade unionist myself, I am, sadly, too aware of the kind of people who get senior posts in trade unions. The GMB seems particularly badly afflicted.

  4. Has anyone noticed all of the news relating to fly tipping in various places within England ?

Note that the blame is placed only with fly tippers.

But not the respective English Council nor the UK government.

Also no GMB reps, like Chris Mitchell , filming a video of rubbish that has been fly tipped aka dumped in those areas and then blaming those various councils and also the UK government.

Meanwhile in Scotland, in Glasgow , in Nicola Sturgeon’s (now former) constituency, we see posts made by Chris Mitchell, a GMB Rep, who has made videos of fly tipping in her constituency and he is blaming Nicola Sturgeon the MSP for that area in Glasgow , the SNP Glasgow council and also the Scottish government ( also SNP) for all of this rubbish that has been dumped over and over again as an actuality.

Here’s a novel idea , how about Chris Mitchell , following England’s example , in him blaming only those who have dumped aka fly tipped all of this rubbish and not those (Glasgow Council) who have to spend part of their budgets cleaning it up……..again and again and again.
