In the Guardian today:
Miliband reveals plans that could mean nuclear power plants built near homes Changes to regulation to speed up development could also make it easier to build on sensitive nature sites. Ed Miliband has unveiled plans that could make it easier to build nuclear power plants closer to homes and on sensitive nature sites, as he attempts to speed up the development of energy infrastructure. The energy secretary set out changes to nuclear regulation, to be carried out this year, which would mean a “win-win for building critical infrastructure while protecting nature and the environment”. However, ministers were quickly accused of “irresponsible deregulation” and putting nature at risk.
Before looking at just how irresponsible this is, would it affect Scotland?

I know, it’s not going to happen in May but don’t think that will be the end of their schemes to find a way round what are only planning laws in Scotland and, remember, the recycling of all this extra activity will stay in Cumbria, upwind and upstream of all of Scotland, which, you may remember has the highest cancer rates in the UK and in Europe.
Irresponsible?
I’ve written so many reports on the all-too-real dangers of living anywhere near nuclear power plants, generating or recycling. UK Government sources, the nuclear industry and those so-called academics in institutions dependent on money from the industry and government will deny the risk or callously assert that they’re statistically insignificant – eg only 4 extra deaths, who cares?

Urgh, that face in big letters…
I was sent this recently. Scary face thing…though the effects on Scotland don’t seem to concern anyone. It’s not my favourite petition site in regards to Scottish/UK matters, but some are worthwhile.
