BBC Reporting Scotland flying solo again to hit you with a dose of early morning anxiety, headlining with a story mysteriously and entirely absent, from their website:

Why would they pull this one out for the early morning short reports where they feel they have an excuse having no context, as below?
See this:
Would a bit of context have been useful for readers?
This kind of thing?

The media in Scotland are headlining the increase in recorded cases of rape and attempted rape in Scotland. Though the increase may in part be a consequence of a greater confidence by victims to come forward and report these crimes, the figures remain disturbing. They have been disturbing for years before and represent a dark shadow on the reputation of a supposedly civilised nation.
However, if like drug deaths, these statistics could be presented to suggest Scotland is the ‘rape capital’ of the UK or Europe, I feel sure we’d see that endlessly repeated.
Let’s look at England & Wales where crime is recorded in a similar way and thus comparable.
The 2024/2025 figures are not out yet but for 2023/2024, there were 67 928 cases of rape or attempted rape in England and Wales.
All things being equal, per head, you might expect the figure for England and Wales to be around 11 times Scotland’s 2 500 to 2 900 range. Even if we take the larger figure, we get 31 900, less than half the actual 67 928. Rape and attempted rape is a staggering twice as common in England & Wales than in Scotland.
The level in England & Wales has been close to 70 000 cases since at least 2021, so consistently more than twice as high as in Scotland.
If drug deaths can be compared then why not rapes?

In the final years of last century because of where my new job was I began listening to Good Morning Scotland because it provided transport updates every 10 or 15 minutes, which would let me work out scenarios to cope with the consequences as colleagues and students had to travel from a fairly wide radius.
As well as the transport, I also got the news bulletins. The Blair Government had recently been elected after 18 years of Thatcher and Major. Very often the first item in the headlines began, ‘The Scottish Conservatives have slammed …. some announcement or proposal by the Labour Government. This preceded a report on what the government proposal was. They were setting a context to predispose listeners to see the proposal as ‘bad’.
When the Scottish Government was established the same tactic was followed, – the Scottish Conservatives slamming or slating some proposal which we had not yet been informed of.
As the programme continued – as I ate my breakfast, cleaned, my teeth, put on my tie – the initial statement would be tempered a bit with the inclusion of statements by Labour or SNP, but the framing was still from a Conservative perspective. When the SNP formed the government the attacks became more pointed and sometimes it was a Labour, LibDem of business organisation quote that framed the reporting of an SG proposal.
This grew in intensity in the years to the 2014 referendum, reaching a crescendo in being almost entirely, DON’T VOTE FOR THAE NATIONALIST BASTURTS, SCOTS IS PURE SHITE AN COULDNAE RUN A MENOJ!
I am, of course indulging in a bit of poetic licences, but the point is valid – the BBC is a propaganda service on behalf of the British state and if the UK Government of the time or any of the devolved governments act in ways that seek to change the British state significantly away from those really in power, the BBC will attack them. This goes for the print media, too.
We see that in today’s headlines following Starmer distancing his government from the actions of the US and Israel in Iran. The Telegraph, Mail, Express, Sun, Times, I, all condemn Starmer in favour of Trump. And these rags consider themselves ‘patriotic’.
