Still fighting hard for Scottish Labour, the Record has another of it’s utterly dishonest and immoral front pages today, with in the opening lines:

‘Killers and rapists are among thousands of fugitives on cops’ wanted list.’

These are presumably suspects rather than criminals, as yet. Murder makes up only 0.015% and sexual violence makes up only 5% of all crime in Scotland so we’re not, as they hope you might think, talking about thousands of either.

Here is the truth about murder in Scotland:

Here is the truth about sex crimes:

  1. This is based on a press release from the Police Federation as part of a campaign for some demand from its members.

As a career- long trade union member I am a supporter of trade unions and actions taken to benefit members. However, that does not blind me to the willfully misleading hyperbole, lurid language and performative rage that Union officials often use. I think it is counterproductive and often alienates the public, who can see through these ridiculous statements and also form adverse opinions about the competence of the group involved.

For example, teacher unions continually carp about the misbehavior of school children. Now, I know some children misbehave from time to time, but almost all behave well almost all of the time. Teachers have some responsibility for managing pupil behaviour and most teachers manage it effectively. If pupils are misbehaving to the extent unions claim they are then this reflects to an extent on the capability of teachers. Does this not lead some members of the public to lose sympathy for them.

Similarly, in this case does this losing track of a suspects not indicate a facing on the part of the police?
