We know that the hundred’s of County Lines drug gangs terrorising small town Scotland, increasing violent crime, prostitution, child abuse, and keeping drug deaths high are based entirely in large English cities such as London, Liverpool and Birmingham. They send child drug mules and violent enforcers into Scotland as far as Shetland.
The recent reports, in newspapers and online, of criminals stealing used cooking oil from Scotland’s chip shops, are careful, as with most County Lines reports, to avoid suggesting that this might be similar. However, unscripted comments in broadcasts by police officers reveal that these thefts are being carried out by ‘by individuals based elsewhere in the country’ and that they involve mobile groups traveling to Scotland for opportunistic thefts, rather than a fixed gang headquartered here.
Media reports of Bulgarian gangs stealing cooking oil first appear in the south of England in 2023, then spread to Cumbria in 2025.
As with drug gangs, disease epidemics (and camper vans?), we’re sharing an island with a large country, plagued with high crime levels which spill over to terrorise our smaller towns and villages. We can still be good friends but just as England does, we need border control and full independence is the only route to that.

O/T BBC Scotland at it again? On the Scotland page of the BBC News website today there is this headline: ‘Row as Scottish Borders set for 8.5% council tax rise. ‘
The article has an ‘Analysis’ by Jamie McIvor News correspondent, BBC Scotland which shifts the focus from the local council to an issue for the upcoming Holyrood election.
He writes: ‘If voters do not back the rise, who will they blame? The council or the Scottish government which gives councils much of their cash? If there are large rises across Scotland, this could well become an issue in May’s Holyrood elections.’
‘The SNP promised to replace the council tax when it first came to power in Holyrood in 2007. The system has been modified but finding a workable alternative which everyone agrees on has been easier said than done.’
Sticking with ‘history’, the piece ends with this: ‘However it can point to several years of freezes and limited increases.‘ (my emphasis)
‘Several years’? My recollection is that council tax rates were frozen by the SNP in government for nine years up to 2017, then capped at 3% and then frozen again in 2024-25. But then I’m not a professional journalist with the research resources and the editorial support of BBC Scotland.

Speaking of stealing I wonder if the below article was in England would they get all the money needed but in Scotland we get shafted again.
