An actual 97% resident doctor vote to call off strike action is not news yet last year when they might hopefully in the future do so, it was

Four hours ago on the Scottish Government‘s latest news site, surely followed by all political editors:

Resident Doctors have voted to accept a revised pay and contract reform offer and call off strike action. The British Medical Association (BMA) has confirmed that its members have accepted an offer of 4.25% in 2025-26 and 3.75% in 2026-27 – a deal that matches one recently accepted by nurses and other health care staff.

The agreement, which will see a cumulative 8.16% uplift over two years, also includes a separate package of contractual reform over the same period with a total combined investment of £133 million. Proposed strike action, which had originally been postponed by the BMA on 9 January, will now be cancelled.

The BMA had it too:

Resident doctors in Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to accept the latest pay offer from the Scottish Government. The result of the online consultative vote saw 97.1% vote in favour of the offer, with a turnout of 62.4%.

The Herald and the Scotsman are reporting it but BBC Scotland, above, are holding back for a quieter time.

Not only is the BBC Scotland silence notable but, also, the hypocrisy is naked.

They were, in the form of Lisa Summers, more than happy on 19 December 2025 to tell us multiple times across TV, radio and internet:

Resident doctors in Scotland to go on strike for first time:

How sad they were when it did not happen.
