People in working-class neighbourhoods across Scotland feel loathed by Labour and can see what the SNP has done for them

We’ve been here before with Kevin, perhaps the least convincing convert from Labour to some kind of nationalist. He writes a lot but clearly researches little. Is the above claim based on any substance like a poll?

It doesn’t look like it. Two January 2026 polls had a class breakdown.

In the YouGov poll, the SNP has exactly the same support 34% from Social groups ABC1 and C2DE. Only Reform UK are better supported in C2DE, by 22 to 17. Labour are notably better supported by ABC1, by 16 to 13, even more so than the Cons.

The Norstat poll for the Times, also in early January 2026, has SNP markedly more popular with C2DE by 40% to 26%, Reform UK more popular with C2DE but only by 24 to 19, and Labour more popular again with ABC1 by 21 to 12.

So the working-class in Scotland don’t support Labour anymore. Why might that be? Sir Keir Starmer’s impoverishment of them and enrichment of the better off since he was elected and the SNP’s more progressive taxation, universal benefits, lower rents, lower council tax and the Child Payment to name only a few?

  1. Notice the words, ‘feel’, and, ‘loathed’ Classic tactics, deploying the emotional tool, not facts or the truth.

I had a response to a petition can’t remember which, but it was very recent, and the Labour MP said, ‘I feel’ blah blah blah. I wrote back with a rather heartless comment saying, I don’t care how you ‘FEEL’ about this!
These people taking huge sums from the public purse who ‘feel’ blah blah about crucial political and social matters, is to my mind, my thinking, unprofessional and irrelevant.

I guess emotions can be easily manipulated though. During the independence referendum I had friends in Newcastle say of the pro independence movement, ‘it’s too emotional’.
Not that it had anything to do with them really but, that’s how the BBC, Channel 4 and the pretendy lefty Guardian framed it and they obviously felt moved enough to make comment and make judgement. Their emotions were being manipulated, boo hoo.

  2. I used to like Kevin McKenna, He’s a good writer. What a shame he’s chosen to shill for the unionists. It makes him unreadable. But maybe he needs the money?
