It is, in our view, a strong step on the way to achieving our shared ambition with the Scottish Government, of making Scotland the best place in the UK for doctors to train and work.

Oh but apparently according to certain very hostile and opposing sources , aka anti SNP sources , it is the SNP, as the Scottish government, who are supposedly “destroying the Scottish NHS”.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the UK other political parties who govern elsewhere within the UK fail to reach agreement with the doctors on their jobs and pay.

The media within Scotland together with opposition parties have organised a campaign against the SNP , in respect to what they say is a huge ‘political’ scandal , concerning a certain Glasgow hospital.

(As Everything is politicised in Scotland , including the NHS, but that is not the case elsewhere though , or so it seems)…..

As meanwhile where other pro UK political parties have been in charge elsewhere in the UK , NHS scandals have included:

Maternity Services Failings (Multiple Trusts): Following major scandals, a national investigation is currently focused on 14 NHS trusts due to concerns regarding maternity care.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (Ockenden Report): Identified as the “biggest maternity scandal” in NHS history, an inquiry revealed that 201 babies and nine mothers needlessly died, with 94 babies suffering life-changing injuries, often due to a “toxic” culture that prioritized natural births over patient safety.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust: Investigations into the maternity unit (City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre) revealed 46 babies suffered brain damage and 19 were stillborn between 2010 and 2020. The trust was fined £1.6 million in early 2025 for failing to provide safe care to three mothers and their babies.

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust: A 2022 report by Dr. Bill Kirkup found that 24 babies died and 130 babies suffered brain damage over a four-year period, with the trust failing to act on warning signs.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital Culture Scandal: A 2025 investigation revealed a “toxic” culture of bullying and harassment, with staff fearful to report mistakes.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (Edenfield Centre): Following a 2022 BBC Panorama investigation, an independent review published in 2024 uncovered serious patient failings, abuse, and failures in staff culture.

Then we have the UK (English) Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, labelling the BMA leadership in England as “irresponsible” and accusing it of  “juvenile delinquency”.

Streeting described the BMA union leadership in England as acting like a “cartel” that is “impossible” to engage with……..so does the chair of the BMA in Scotland, Dr Iain Kennedy, agree with this Labour minister or is he, Kennedy, too busy with his #SNPBAD work within Scotland , in him being another who apparently considers that the “SNP are destroying the NHS in Scotland”……not purely for political reasons of course. Ha Ha

Trade Unions and the Labour party are normally side by side , until , that is , it does not suit Labour , examples being the Doctors’ strikes, Rail strikes etc etc

Of course Labour are now no longer Labour , as now they are Tories in all but party name.

  1. According to the Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratios |( HSMR ) , which is the measure used to compare mortality rates in UK hospitals , the QEUH in Glasgow had no significant difference in its mortality rate compared to the national average ( June 2024-July2025 ).

However between 2022-2023 the QEUH had a lower mortality rate than expected for its patient profile ( meaning fewer deaths than expected ).

In Newsweek’s 2024 ”World’s Best Hospitals” the QEUH was ranked 43rd in UK , slightly down from 38th in the previous year , but still in the top tier of British hospitals for overall performance and patient outcomes . ( circa 1800 hospital in UK )

    1. Where is the HSMR and who pays for them? Not heard of them before…By ‘national average’ presume that means their UK.
What or who is ‘Newsweek’? 43rd ranking in the ‘UK’, sounds a bit low given the terrble state of English hospitals and the English NHS.
