Talking-up Scotland escapes from paywall misery and owner gets new gasket fitted

After one day of putting Talking-up Scotland behind a paywall, I’ve come to my sense (just the one) and set it free.

It was the 3 800 readers one night followed by only 14 contributors the next day, that blew my gasket. I have a new gasket and plan to just chill from now on.

Maybe I’m too emotional for this line of work but then if I wasn’t, I suspect TuS would be smaller or have been quietly abandoned years ago. What normal person would work to 74, seven days a week, 340 days a year?

In the end, I get something out of it. I’ll rest when I’m deid.

Many thanks again to all of you supporters.

Share the above, please.

John

  1. Pleased about that John. Was going to write to you as sharing your blogs to “We Support …..” would have been difficult with a paywall in place. I’ll continue to support your Page and “share” and of course your Crowdfunder……………… Might be interesting to note that both Paul Kavanagh (Wee Ginger Dug) and All Under One Banner are both Crowdfunding at the moment as well … Cheers & keep up the good work – Jim

  2. I’m afraid I’m very familiar to gasket blowing. Luckily for me it’s in the privacy of my own home so I have a blow out, get over myself after a few deep breaths and some silent sweary words and wait for the next one. 😊

  3. Dear John

I salute you, your tenacity and refusal to ‘get cheesed off’ by the

‘tightness’ of some, who perhaps could afford to occasionally give a wee £1 or £2,

IF they can afford to do so.

I hold my hands up that “I haven’t contributed what I wish I could”, but will try to do better.

Also, is it possible you could widen the scale of your valuable input, to bring to the attention of more Scots, the fact that we now are lucky enough to have MORE/OTHER Independence options with:

    LIBERATE SCOTLAND Alliance

    Independents for Independence I4I

    Independence for Scotland Party ISP

    Sovereignty Party

Loved your comment, which is typical of a “Scot ‘with a bone'”!

You ARE appreciated but we should ensure you’re aware of that, because of the support given.

  4. I mentioned this in a reply to one of your other posts. It could be worth trying. I often contribute to folk who carry this link, especially when I see something that I like or endorse.
All you have to do is place the link prominently on all your posts.

  6. Great to know you’ll continue.
A paywall would actually make it easier for me to contribute BUT I’m glad, in a way, that you haven’t chosen that route.
I’ll contribute next week (when I’m back on my own home internet) The service you provide is simultaneously incredible and heartwarming.
I want to help but I’m not sure how.

  7. Very, very glad that you and your gasket are still here leading the charge John.

The thought of you not being there was depressing .

I promise to make every effort to contribute to costs when I can .

in complete honesty , I wasn’t aware that you had a current crowdfunder running.

that’s maybe down to my digital semi illiteracy .

Your work is greatly valued and indispensable ( who else is doing work like you )

but it must be tough feeling isolated an unappreciated , you’re not.

Maybe the ‘ Buy me a coffee ‘ idea is worth trying.

  8. As a sort of a PS to this thread, might I also add that your articles are such a welcome oasis in a bleak desert of unionist negativity.
