Why do statistics reveal Talking-up Scotland is better and bigger in 2025 with thousands reading every day but only a tiny handful prepared to support?

Last Wednesday 3 592 discrete visitors read Talking-up Scotland posts. Tens of thousands saw the posts across social media. Three days later 6 (at time of writing this) contributed to the crowdfunder. In the last crowdfunder in September 2025, 412 contributed.

After the last crowdfunder, TuS began to post and to be read more often. From only 154 posts and 20 536 visitors in August 2025, before the crowdfunder, to 37 127 visitors in January 2026. The apparently only slight increase in posts published in January 2026 is deceptive due to the season. There were more than 200 posts in October and November, 33% more than in August.

Annually, there were 1496 posts in 2024 but 1869 in 2025.

Better? I think so. More important stuff better researched.

How has this been possible? At near 75, arthritic, post-stroke typist, weary prostate-afflicted sleeper, I didn’t do it all by myself and that’s why the crowdfunder matters.

There are sadly many 1st Class honours graduates in ‘Media’ with an A in research methods, courses written by now retired profs, who cannot get graduate-level jobs and are working in eg, tourism or hospitality.

You can imagine, I’m sure, a few of them, under the radar, helping their old prof. Such work should not go unrewarded.

So tell everybody, this is the plan and:

  1. I’m so sorry to hear this. I know times are difficult financially for all of us, especially so soon after Christmas. I also admit that I needed your reminder as a nudge to contribute, something I will do right now.

    My apologies.
