A new ferry service linking Scotland and France for the first time could set sail in just a few a months. The route, from Rosyth to Dunkirk, nicknamed ‘Project Brave’, was first proposed in 2022, but stalled in 2025. Funding issues, as well as the need to build a new border control facility at Rosyth, to allow the processing of food and drink, halted the project.
It’s only when you have a look at the map above of existing UK to Europe ferry services, that you see just how Scotland has been stifled by the Union. We have one service to Belfast. Belfast has three external services. Independent Ireland with the same population as Scotland, has 7, while England has 15! Rosyth to Dunkirk would give us one. What could be more illustrative of our capture?
Has the Union stifled the development of links to Europe and forced traffic through England?

Evidence substantiates that the Union has, in effect, stifled Scotland’s independent European links by centralizing control in London, shifting historical trade westward/imperially, and (via Brexit) erecting barriers. I believe that the Scottish ships were sunk off Beachy Head after 1707 but can’t find confirmation.
Also, there was a ferry service from Rosyth to Zeebrugge from 2002 to 2018.

We have undoubtedly been stifled by the Union. But this old carrot from (presumably) Scotgov is wheeled out regularly before an election, then wheeled back in again after. So Yes Union and SNP Scotgov stifle our links to Europe.

There is also the centralised Stock exchange in London. The closure of the Scottish stock exchanges. Denied Scots access to investment opportunities here in Scotland and companies a source of finances. Concentrating both those and high paying jobs and expertise in an area overburdened already these assets already. Denying Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish of the same opportunities.
