Despite a greater challenge Scotland is providing care packages at 3 times the rate in England

Professor John Robertson OBA

In the English Daily Express today but not shadowed by its ‘Scottish’ variant:

Why might the ‘Scottish’ Daily Express have little to say on this?

Nearly three times as many more in England waiting for a social care assessment and care at home services than in Scotland

From People requiring a social care assessment and care at home services, published yesterday:

The number of people estimated to be waiting on a social care assessment for a package of care was 7,806 on 3 November 2025. This is an increase of 30% from the estimated number of people waiting this time last year (4 November 2024).

All things being equal, you might expect the figure for England would be around 10 times as much or 78 000. It was 195 788:

Thee is a 2024 study in Scotland suggesting that in 2022, 632 people died while waiting for a care package, pro rata, very similar to the figure for England:

However, it’s important to note that Scotland has an older population – 20% over 65 compared to between 18 and 19% across the UK. Remember a 1.5% difference means many thousands of people.

  1. Thanks John, the BritNat media would never compare the situation in England, because they know people in Scotland would breathe a sigh of relief and thank the SNP for their progress in improving services in Scotland. I didn’t know there are more older folks in Scotland than in England, interesting, especially when under full English control, Scotland had the lowest life expectancy of well, anywhere in the western world.

As for the ‘thieves’ headline…did the daily rags demand the English Gov and police do something about the horrendous number of gangs of thieves in England terrorising shop keepers and taking what they want, no they did not. My neighbours who read the BritNat rags were horrified when they read about that happening in England, I suspect it’s been imported into Scotland. The SNP should step aside and let the Eng parties take control and stop such things happening…oh wait, it’s off the charts in their English Labour/Tory towns so…
    No thanks!
