Scotland, above, the most impoverished part of the UK, and yet:

News you won’t hear – Scotland hits highest renewable electricity generation figure EVER after 19 years of giving nearly a quarter of a million GWh, worth £60 billion, to England
Scotland produces 5-6 times more gas than it consumes annually, making it a net exporter.
8% of UKthe population but 16% of the meat exports – 8% of the UK population but 31% of total UK food and drink exports

      1. Au contraire, I am serious in describing Scotland’s political status as that of a colony. Scotland is a country but we do not make decisions about the most basic and fundamental matters such as financial policy, energy policy, foreign affairs and defence. These decisions are made by English MPs in Westminster regardless of whether they affect Scotland adversely e.g. privatisation of public utilities such as oil and gas, electricity, rail, immigration policy, BREXIT and taxation.

        Another characteristic is deindustrialisation and the draining of resources from Scotland to England without compensation. Grangemouth is the most recent example with our only oil refinery closed although the oil and gas is sourced from Scotland. We now have to import petrol from English refineries where the oil sourced from Scotland is now refined.

        We have no control of our media including the “public service broadcaster” the BBC which drip feeds a constant stream of biased “news” into our homes.

        Westminster has blocked a referendum on independence despite a majority vote in 2021 for parties which promised one in their manifesto. We have no control over this important decision making process.

        I could go on….

        Power devolved is power retained.

    You know I have lived in Scotland a long time longer than I lived in NE England where I grew up, and we spent day trips in Scotland when my poor parents could afford it. Loved it.
    My view is that the Scottish people are warm, kind and generous. However, get on the wrong side of them, say a wrong word and, ooft! That’s the end of that, grudges galore, no offense, and maybe I am just an argumentative take no prisoners type as well. :-/
    So is that due to being undermined, belittled and admonished, I don’t know, but we need unity among independence activists, bloggers, friends, when not in a huff, and countrypeople! 🙂

    I feel so attached to Scotland and yet so sorry for Scotland, it’s a beautiful country, that has been so stamped on and stolen from hugely, by the English colonists.

    Let’s hope there’s no chance of any chink in the armour for any division among those who just want their country back…an independent civic, internationalist Scottish country.

    1. My mantra A.H has always been, get Independence, and then we can argue amongst ourselves what is the best way forward. During canvassing and leafleting for a Yes vote in the run up to 2014, we, the S.N.P, were supported by the S.S.P, and the Scottish Green’s. No mention was made of the different ideas all had about what would happen if we won. The sole object was to try to get Independence. And I agree, that is what it should be all about.
