Our kids now hardly ever kill each other but BBC Scotland is killing our spirits with these distortions of reality

BBC Scotland, careful to put the above as a quote but still hitting readers with the same message and one that does not inform us about the reality of our world. They know the scared and the anxious don’t vote for change.

The family of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Glasgow say police should be given more powers to search young people for knives. Kory McCrimmon’s family were speaking after BBC research showed that Police Scotland’s use of stop-and-search on under 18s increased by 38% last year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0x4k2xyw2o

Before I go any further, isn’t that sequence of ideas a bit odd? It’d read better if the second sentence presented evidence of an increase in knife possession or an increased in murders by juniors? Why didn’t they? See below.

Why is the quote all-too-understandable from traumatised parents but for the rest of us deeply unhelpful in understanding out world?

First our kids are so not killing each other.

Important facts for Scotland’s media and opposition leaders – As murder by minors increases four fold in England and Wales but it plummets to a quarter in Scotland after 18 years of SNP administration

2001-2006 2007-2012 2013-2018 2019-2024

Homicide by age of accused 5 year average

From ITN on 1 May 2025:

ITN Productions’ new 1 x 90’ documentary for 5, looks at the rise in murder convictions for 12-17-year-olds in the UK, from those affected by these harrowing crimes and experts offering insight and analysis.

Stuart Stephens [pictured], father of Olly Stephens who was killed in 2021 aged 13, shares heart-wrenching memories of his son, whose attack was planned on social media. Stuart subsequently started to campaign for tougher online safety measures.

Rohan Shand’s son, Rohan Shand jr who was known as Fred, was stabbed to death on his way home from school in 2023. Rohan snr talks powerfully about the emotional impact of knife crime on him and his family.

Hayley Ryall, mother of teenager Mikey Roynon who was tragically killed at a house party in 2023 also speaks out about her devasting loss and setting up the charity Mikey’s World to install specialist emergency bleed kits in her son’s hometown of Bristol. The nation is facing a chilling new reality: a shocking rise in child killers—and their victims—is gripping Britain. Murder convictions for minors in England and Wales have quadrupled since 2016. This gripping documentary investigates the disturbing rise in youth violence, asking: what’s driving this deadly trend? Through expert insight and heart-wrenching real-life stories, we uncover a toxic mix of online feuds, social media pressure, and deadly weapons. https://www.itn.co.uk/media-centre/5-documentary-talks-families-children-murdered-their-peers

The above does not give the actual figures but I must assume the quadrupling claim is reliable.

Some may find this too sensitive a topic but I feel I must clarify the situation, any trend, in Scotland as a counter ready for the likes of the Scottish opposition leaders or ‘our’ dreadful media, ever ready to paint a dark portrait of life in Scotland under the SNP.

Above, the official data reveal a steady, statistically significant, falling trend in the number of homicides by minors, over four 5 years sets (more reliable than 1 year changes), plummeting from 24 under Labour to 6 under the SNP, in recent years.

Stabbing?

First, Murder by stabbing in Scotland has fallen in a steady trend to half of the level 6 years ago – From Knife crime statistics: FOI release, published today, we see that there were 49 homicides by knife in Scotland in 2017/2018 and that there has been a steady and significant fall to 25, in 2022/2023, the most recent data.1

Second, ‘teens’ are dying in ever fewer numbers. The above victim was 15 years old. There are no data for 13-19 year-olds but there is typically only 1 homicide victim in the 5-15 age range per year and the greatest reduction has been amongst victims aged 16-24. In the five year period from 2004-05 to 2008-09, there were 125 victims in this age range. This dropped to 29 across the latest five years period from 2019-20 to 2023-24.2

Third, Glasgow – Glasgow City has witnessed a relatively larger fall in homicides than Scotland as a whole in the last 20 years. Over the latest five year period from 2019-20 to 2023-24, there have been 47 homicides in Glasgow, a 71% reduction compared to 162 for the five year period from 2004-05 to 2008-09. This compares to a 49% reduction in Scotland as a whole between these periods.2

Finally, England and Wales – 94% increase in Police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in the last 10 years. 55,008 Police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument.

  1. Thanks John. The most disgusting part is that the English BBC in Scotland lie about these stats
and in fact use their lies as political ammunition. Same with STV and the other non ‘Scottish’ media, classic dirty colonial BritNat tactics to attempt to portray Scotland as a crime ridden, dysfunctional dystopia, when in fact that was more the reality in some parts of Scotland, when under full English rule. :-/

  2. BBC headline Scottish pages : ‘Our kids are killing each other – we need to do something’

Meanwhile what was formerly and very recently the top article on the main Scottish page of the BBC website on the 5th December, that is now no longer there and it was also formerly the top article on the Scottish Politics page, but now it has descended to being the 6th article on the Scottish politics page.

It was earlier today the 11th article on the Glasgow & West Scotland page but now it has gone from that page. (at 15.36pm).

So it’s gonna be a case of that article ……Going , Going and then it will be Gone from all of the BBC website pages way too soon (and ,they the BBC, hopes, as do Labour , it is then a political story that will be forgotten) and never noted (regurgitated) by the BBC ever again).

    The article ?

“Scottish Labour frontbencher quits over links to sex offender”

    “quits” ?

So has this person really quit completely ?

    Nope.

Just quit the front bench as Labour’s Education spokesperson but will still be a Labour (backbench) MSP.

Apparently Scottish Labour MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy‘s continued friendship with former Labour Councillor Sean Morton it is to be filed under a “serious error of personal judgement” over her friendship with a then convicted sex offender.

So it is now a case of ‘Move on nothing to see here’….apparently.

The BBC article stated that “She will remain as a Labour MSP. The party said she had done the right thing and it considers the matter closed”. (the BBC website will also consider this story also as being closed too soon as well).

Sean Morton, the former Labour Councillor, “admitted having indecent images of children and extreme pornography in 2017”.

Clearly then she , Duncan-Glancy, has not “done the right thing” in continuing a friendship with a convicted sex offender who was convicted of having indecent images of children, and she was Labour’s ‘Education spokesperson’ .

Also it may be considered as a “matter closed” for Labour but surely not one considered closed for all others as it then questions her lack of judgement and also her lack of moral standards, in her thinking it is acceptable and so right in her continuing a link with , as in a friendship, with such a person as Sean Morton.

Imagine this was a SNP Minister and the FM stating in this exact same scenario that “The party said the Minister had done the right thing in resigning and so it now considers the matter closed” and then the SNP MSP still in the SNP (as Duncan-Glancy is now still in Labour) and then either Anas Sarwar, other Labour MSP’s , including Pam Duncan-Glancy , all then just saying Okay, that’s fine let’s now just move on.

See this is the double standards and the sheer duplicity with which Labour, Tory & also the Lib Dems operate as opposition parties , as whenever they are caught out , either as a party or individually, and so then they are exposed as #BAD, they just declare that they intend to hold an ‘internal investigation’ and then they reach their own conclusion upon it and so then declare publicly that the matter has now been dealt with and so now it is closed …………..so Move On.

Where as when the SNP are in the #BAD spotlight (as a constant with both the media and also with all other parties) it is then always to be up for a heated debate within the chamber , where they , the SNP, are then demonised , vilified and never allowed to move on from it. (and so are subject to a feeding frenzy of front page (widespread) headlines in all of the UK papers about how #BAD they have been and are).

So Labour did no investigation upon this scandal connected to Duncan-Glancy , they just accepted her resignation (after the Daily Record exposed this story) and then nowt more, as a punishment, is to be done. She is still a Labour MSP.

That’s the Labour party for you………they love to dish it out to those in opposition to them, but they are a tad too quick at trying to avoid all others scrutinising and then rightly judging them and their #BAD actions (which last year and this year is a tally that is mounting up).

I mean first we had the Colin Smyth scandal ( previously worked as a modern studies teacher) , then also there is the Labour MSP Foysol Choudhury allegations of “inappropriate conduct” and now Pam Duncan-Glancy……..(we also had the” Fife former Labour councillor who had been found guilty of sexual offences against a teenage girl over a seven-month period, he was expelled from the Labour party only after he was convicted” and then we also had the Labour MP, Dan Morris, arrested this year for rape and Child sex offences).

Of course the BBC itself also does not have a clean record themselves either on who they employ that then , as BBC employees, turn out to be individuals arrested for sexual offences or indeed their higher up ’employee’s considered to be politically compromised (Richard Sharp, Robbie Gibb).

This is why we on here often say ……’why should we allow anyone, be it the UK media or a politician from any opposition party, to judge the SNP, when we all know that they have all had their various scandals, many sexual, and political within their own parties and also within the BBC and other media too.

    To paraphrase a biblical quote:

“All of those political parties and the UK media that are without any sin , then yes, let them be first to cast their stones (plural) at the SNP”……..

However hypocrisy, self-righteousness, and passing judgment may unfortunately be something that they all assume is their entitlement to use, and so then they deploy these undesirable traits that they then weaponise against the SNP…..or rather those that they refer to as being the #SNPBAD.

Truth is that their combined and individual tally of #BAD , as opponents to the SNP, is way way way in excess of anything #Bad that the SNP have either actually done or are accused of doing as a constant, accusations mainly sourced from and so used by the SNP’s very hostile opponents , as in hostility that stems from both opposition political party’s sources but also a hell of a lot from the UK BritNat media as well…………..like say the BBC.

  3. A typically diversionary article from HMS James Cook https://archive.ph/2dfmN, but notably devoid of the usual wailing nonsense from selected rentaquote Labour and Tory MSPs – Rather than Liz’s candidate PD-G, might I suggest the Manky Offord promotion has backfired very badly for James, and chief “king-maker” of Holyrood is not a happy gurner…
