Any Scottish stand-up – “Honestly, at this rate the only thing Great British Energy is powering is my material for the next five years.”

I'm using AI increasingly. I trust it more than most journalists or thinktanks to tell me the truth. Grok AI time after time reveals no agenda on Scottish independence.

Professor John Robertson OBA

Only BBC Scotland is going with this ridiculous line:

Great British Energy (GBE) says its investments aim to support at least 10,000 jobs over the next five years, with a focus on areas historically dependent on oil and gas.

See that ‘support’? I seem to remember the word ‘creation’ was in their aims only a few months ago. Let’s ask AI:

Yes, job creation was explicitly one of the central aims when Great British Energy was set up by the Labour government in 2024.Here is the official evidence from the founding documents and statements at the time:

  1. King’s Speech (July 2024) – the legislation establishing GBE:
“My Government will establish Great British Energy… to create jobs in clean energy industries across the United Kingdom.”
  2. Keir Starmer’s announcement speech (May 2024, Scottish Power HQ):
“Great British Energy will be based in Scotland… creating thousands of good jobs in the clean energy industries of the future, particularly in the North East of Scotland.”
  3. Labour Party manifesto (June 2024):
“Labour’s publicly-owned Great British Energy will create thousands of skilled, unionised jobs in clean power and help deliver energy security.”
  4. Ed Miliband’s repeated pledges (2024–2025):
He has regularly said GBE will “create tens of thousands of jobs” and specifically “deliver hundreds of jobs in Aberdeen” and “thousands of jobs across the country” in the supply chain.
  5. GB Energy Founding Statement (July 2024):
One of its five statutory objects is:
“to support the creation of jobs in the industries in which it invests.”

So yes – creating jobs was not just a side-effect; it was one of the headline political promises and is literally written into the company’s legal purpose. The gap between the promise (“thousands”, “tens of thousands”, “hundreds in Aberdeen”) and the reality so far (13 direct jobs in Scotland, ~70 UK-wide a year later) is exactly why Scottish comedians (and Westminster opposition parties) are having a field day with it.

  1. Why would anyone with a modicum of intelligence believe any of Starmer’s manifesto “promises”, since in actual fact he had broken all of them before the G.E. Our problem is the same as it’s always been, and that is these lies are the headlines promoted by a corrupt media, and as we are only too well aware, most of the public only read the bold print. Supplemented by B.B.C Scotland News amplifying the propaganda to the few still watching/listening their garbage output.
