From the Guardian today, the above and:
One in seven (13%) of England’s bathing waters are rated as polluted, and one in 14 so polluted they are not recommended for swimming. Famous beaches including Bognor Regis, Scarborough’s South Bay and Littlehaven Beach in South Shields were all rated “poor” in the latest classifications from the Environment Agency, which means they are not recommended for swimming.
From SEPA in November 2025:
Record number of Excellent Bathing Waters in Scotland for 2025 – In 2025 the highest number of Scotland’s bathing waters on record will meet the best environmental standards, with 87% achieving Excellent or Good classifications. A further 10% will meet the Sufficient standard.

I watched this, at which point they didn’t seem to specify it was in England. I pointed out that it is and that Scottish Water is not privatised and why. They now have made clear this is in England though say ‘UK’ in the title. There is a map they show quickly which appears to show that Scotland’s rivers etc as bad as those in England…interested to know who made the map.
I see they have a couple or reports below this one about ‘UK waterways crisis’. Haven’t watched those yet.

About 35 years ago, we and our 4 year old daughter had a holiday in Scarborough. On the first day, when we went to the beach, the first things we saw were several turds being washed in by the tide. So, the only water activities sanctioned by my wife were in the local swimming pool.
