Professor John Robertson OBA
For decades, I’ve wanted to write the lyrics for songs but could never find a collaborator. Recently I’ve turned to AI for the tunes and the performance – what else can I do?
I’ve written this song with a view to persuading reluctant Yes voters that independence is not exile. We’d still be good friends to the many good folk, not just their relatives and friends, when Scotland is free to run its own affairs. We’re not going away in any physical sense and if the going got tough, we’d still be there with them, barring any daft invasions by them of course.
I don’t want to make any money from this, just credit the authorship. Anyone should feel free to use the lyrics and the tune in any way they like. If anybody does, please let me know.

It’s a stomper unlike Flower of Scotland?
Lyrics:
In the morning we’ll be singing, we’ll be singing
We have reasons to be angry with them, to this day
Albion’s masters have taken everything we had
In warships, fighting men and blood, we’ve paid
But so have our neighbours just over the border
They’ve died on the line with us, lived in the slums with us
Too often the rich have set us against each other
UK Reformers have that same purpose this very day
Come on Scotland, it’s your time
Time to live the way you believe in
Come on Scotland, it’s your time
Still together if it comes for us all
In the morning we’ll be singing, we’ll be singing
Come on Scotland, it’s not an exile
Still together on the beaches and
Still together on the landing grounds
Together in the fields and in the streets
Come on Scotland, it’s just our turn
We’ve waited decades for a better place with our English friends
We can’t wait for ever but we must try now to go on our own
We make the world dreamed of by those who are now gone
And they’ll see it happen before their eyes right next door
Their masters of news cannot forever hide from them what we do
Come on England open your eyes and give up your endless wars
Come on England open your eyes, there’s no shame in following
Come on Scotland, it’s your time
Time to live the way you believe in
Come on Scotland, it’s your time
Still together if it comes for us all
In the morning we’ll be singing, we’ll be singing
Come on Scotland, it’s not an exile
Still together on the beaches and
Still together on the landing grounds
Together in the fields and in the streets
Come on Scotland, it’s just our turn

Sorry it’s still ‘Flower of Scotland’ for me. It gets everyone singing. Mind you the day they choose ‘Highland Cathedral’ I’m emigrating!

Any ideas about folk bands in Scotland that might like to use it?

“Flower of Scotland” was written as a lament. Listen to it as the Corries intended. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=GDoM8pEDcLo with apologies for youtube sporge. It has been misappropriated, at a time when Scots at rugby matches were booing GSTQ.

A brilliant message but I fear too complicated for an anthem. I like the Freedom Come All Ye but it’s also too complex IMO.
The beauty of Floor O’ Scotland is its simplicity and emotional affect. During the Euros the foreign commentators in the press box all took off their headphones so they could listen to the Scottish fans belting it out in the stadium. Result!
The reference to Edward’s army is symbolic – it is now Westminster’s army of ghouls. But these things are in the past so it’s time to “be a nation again”.
That’s why there is talk of banning it during the World Cup. Dangerous separatism!
